You know how I feel about exercise.
It needs to be a priority in your life.
I don’t mean that you need to be training for marathons or working out for two hours a day or anything like that.
Being much closer to 50 (holy crap) than I am to 40 has me really thinking about this.
At 48, I’m one of the older moms at school. I’m old enough to be the mom of some of the other moms of the kids in Number 5, 6, and 7’s classes.
And I don’t exercise because I want to look like they do (actually, I look as good as most of them).
I don’t exercise because I’m trying to get the body back that I had before I had kids.
I exercise because once you hit 35, you start losing muscle if you don’t maintain it.
I exercise because it sets a good example for the kids.
I exercise because since I’m an older mom, if I make it to being a grandma, I wanna be strong enough to hold those babies, dammit!
I exercise because I’ve been in the nuthouse three times for depression, and I know that without it, I’ll end up right back in there before too long.
I exercise because I want to be able to do lots of fun stuff when I’m retired.
I exercise so I can be a better mom, and I exercise because it makes me feel much more comfortable and confident between the sheets.
And I exercise because when I do, I lead a much more active lifestyle.
The more active a lifestyle you lead, the more likely you are to exercise.

Susie, I exercise as a direct result of my need to stay off of Wellbutrin (it’s contraindicated with one of my other rx’s.) I’m 46 as well (but with only 6 kids– all under 10) and I think I hold up pretty well in comparison to the other mommies.
