Consistency over Intensity: Start Small

May 6, 2025 by not your average mom Leave a Comment

Most of us try to do EVERYTHING when we want to make changes.

All or nothing.

That’s because change is uncomfortable, humans don’t like being uncomfortable, and we want to see results immediately if we’re going to make ourselves suffer.

But that’s not how change works. All or nothing leads to burnout and inevitable failure.

If you want to develop new habits or make changes, stop focusing on how quickly you can get to the end result and focus on what you need to do to get the result instead.

Focus on the process.

And then make the process manageable.

If you want to start drinking more water, you don’t have to start with a gallon a day.

Start with a little bit more than what you are currently drinking.

If you don’t drink any water at all right now, start with something you can easily sustain. Like 4 ounces.

That might seem like a joke, and not enough to make a difference, but a bucket fills drop by drop.

Change takes time. Especially change you can maintain.

Once drinking 4 ounces of water starts to become easy and automatic – a habit – then you can level up to 8 ounces, or whatever amount you can sustain.

Keep doing that until you are where you want to be!
