Two months ago I really committed to improving my health.
To losing weight.
To getting stronger.
To eating better.
To just taking better care of myself in general.
I have succeeded in most of those areas.
I’ve been working really hard to be disciplined.
My palate is starting to change.
I started to make changes in how I was eating and exercising nine weeks ago.
I always exercise consistently, so that didn’t change all that much, but initially I just started being mindful of what I was eating.
I didn’t really make massive changes. I just started paying attention.
Then four weeks ago I really got serious.
I have been about 90% plant based for the last four weeks.
I do daily cardio — I either swim at the Y, run (on the road) or use the elliptical I have here at home.
In addition to some form of daily cardio, I’ve been strength training 4-6 times a week. I do that at home, and I’ve moved my workout area into my room so I can shut the door and have a little bit of privacy.
But the kids still come in and bug me. 🤪
I’ve been doing a really good job taking care of myself in the eating and moving department.
The sleeping department is another story.
That is the next area to really focus on.
My biggest issue?
I watch my current binge show on the iPad in bed. And it’s really preventing me from getting to sleep early enough.
And sometimes I doze off, then wake up, realize I’ve slept through part of the show, rewind to the last part I remember, and start watching again.
That’s not good.
This has been my routine for a long, long time.
For as long as I can remember I have used the TV or some form of it to fall asleep.
I think I’m ready to change that.
While it provides my brain with some immediate relief, in the long run, this habit does absolutely NOTHING to improve the quality of my life.
In fact, it only takes away from it.
What I really want is to be that person who reads before going to sleep.
So that’s the thing I’m working on next!
Oh, and before you start banging out a comment about it, I got a new phone. And I took my first photos with my old phone in selfie mode and then took the most recent ones using the regular camera.
So no.
My tattoos didn’t magically switch sides of my body 😜.
I’m feeling really good about the direction I’m headed.
And I’m pretty proud of myself for doing this work and making changes at a time in my life that has been pretty challenging.
If I can do this kind of stuff now, I really can do anything.
(And so can you).
So what should I start reading?
Any suggestions?
Let me know!

Good for you! I recently had a high BP scare & have made some similar changes. Just little ones, not drastic, but enough to start seeing results & BP back to healthy. My goal is to keep the exercise up. I just reserved The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis, it’s historical fiction. Keep up the hard work! Health is worth it.

Great job! It’s so important for us Moms to spend time on ourselves! I got out of my nightly binge watching by doing it while I’m cooking! I pop my ear buds in and watch my show while I’m roaming back n forth in the kitchen and sometimes I don’t even have to be watching the screen (you know which shows you can get away with that). It’s been a game changer for bedtime!

City of Thieves by David Benioff
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I like to read before bed, but sometimes get sucked into the book and still stay up late 😜 what I find most helpful is meditation right before bed as that is really beneficial for my depression and anxiety plus it helps me shut off my mind! I highly recommend the ‘Breethe’ app (both the free and paid version) and ‘waking up’ app by Sam Harris (you can try for free or get free access to this one if you can’t afford).
