Decisions, decisions.

November 18, 2013 by not your average mom 3 Comments

I’m going to start with some blatant self promotion.

My next e-course, Not Your Average Holiday — Stay On Track Through the New Year, starts today.

The goal of the course is to keep you moving through the holidays.

To help you to enjoy yourself  during the holidays without packing on the pounds.

And also to help you establish some healthy workout habits now, so that you enter 2014 with some sort of a routine.

It’s not too late to register. CLICK HERE!  At $25 for almost 8 weeks, it’s a bargain — $3 a week. That’s like 2 cups of coffee!

Now for a little motivation and inspiration.

You never know where making the decision to get yourself in shape is going to lead you.

But I will wager large amounts of money on the fact that it will change you.

Not just physically.

But emotionally.

A few months back I started a weekly running and walking group on Sunday mornings.

Some weeks there are quite a few people there.

Last week it was just me.

Yesterday it was me and one other woman. She took my last e course and is signed up for the next one.

In each course, I challenge everyone to sign up for “something big.”

Now something big is different for everyone.

It may be a 5K race or a triathlon or a marathon or trying a new class, like Zumba or spin or pilates.

It’s something you’ve never done before that pushes you out of your comfort zone.

So the woman I ran with yesterday isn’t really a runner.

She doesn’t have a passion for it.

But there is a 4 mile New Year’s Day race here in town that she was thinking about registering for as her “something big.”

She was really apprehensive about signing up for it.

She sent me a bunch of texts. Here was our exchange:

Are you running that January 1st race in town?

Yes.

I might run the race. I drove the route yesterday. It’s lonngggg and Ironworks is scary.

I’ll run/walk the route with you. Lots of people walk up that hill.

Have you done that run when not in tip top shape?

Yep. Twice and never in tip top shape. Did it last year before lose to win started. 40 lbs. heavier than I am now. Also the year before when (Number 7) was not quite 3 months old yet.

Holy shit where do u get the guts from?

And my response to that was:

I just figure,  what have I got to lose?

And that is how I approach pretty much everything these days.

What have I got to lose?

Because I know what I have gained.

A whole new life.

A whole new perspective.

A whole new respect for myself and what my imperfect body is capable of accomplishing.

And those physical accomplishments have led to so much more.

Pushing myself to my limits physically has taught me how tough I am.

It has helped me through some really, really, really tough times.

I can handle anything.

I have made it through this very tough financial time because of what I learned when I pushed myself to my physical limits.

I learned not to quit.

That I can handle it.

My house is now getting organized because I ran a marathon.

If I made it through a marathon run, I can make it through a marathon cleaning session.

I can make it through anything.

And it all started from one little, or, as it turns out, not so little, decision to get myself healthy.

All it takes is a decision.

It-is-in-your-moments

What will your decision be?

Keep it up ladies!

Would love some more info on the ladies! How do they feel about what they’re doing and how they’re doing? How has it been for them? What changes have been made? How close to their goals are they, etc. The picture updates are great and there are definitely visible changes, maybe I’m the only one, but I’d love to know how they’re feeling too!

Living vicariously through other’s weight loss trials and tribulations right now…only 5 weeks left in my pregnancy. 🙂

I could have written this post, and 8 weeks ago, I could have been the woman in your post who was afraid to run and had no passion for it. Because of your help, and my own dogged determination, I now love running, and am healthier and happier than I have been in years. For me, it’s not so much about my weight as my mindset. I also feel like there’s nothing that can stop me if I set my mind to it, and that’s beyond empowering! I love that I have access to this part of myself again, and hope to pass the lesson along to my son-that you really can do anything if you are willing and work hard!

My favorite part of the whole thing (not saying any of it wasn’t great) was your final quote “All it takes is a decision.”
