What defines us is how well we rise after falling.

This weight loss/eating healthy/working out thing can be discouraging.

Because it’s never over.

And just when you think you’ve “got it,” a holiday comes along.

And you take the day off from working out,

which somehow turns into 2 days.

And then you take one bite of that cheesecake that someone brought to your house.

You don’t actually eat a whole piece.

You just take a bite from it while it’s still in the refrigerator.

Since you haven’t cut a whole piece and actually put it on a plate,

it doesn’t really count.

But you don’t put the fork down.

And then you go back for another bite.

And just one more.

And before you know it,

you’ve made about fifteen trips to the refrigerator and eaten the equivalent of about two pieces of cheesecake.

So your strategy didn’t exactly work.

Now you’ve eaten an assload of cheesecake, you haven’t worked out in a couple days, and you are very close to packing it all in.

Don’t do it.

And don’t beat yourself up.

Dust the cheesecake crumbs off your face and climb back on that horse.

We all have moments of weakness.

Sometimes our moments of weakness turn into days of weakness.

It’s not the end of the world.

Falling-off-the-wagon

You are going to make mistakes.

You are going to veer off track.

Not just in this weight loss thing.

In life.

The fact that you make a mistake does not determine the type of person you are or the quality of your character.

It’s what you do after the mistake that does.

It’s a new day.

Make it a good one 🙂

I know the feeling. I’m doing the south beach diet and traveling for the 4th I fell off the wagon a bit. Trying to get back on track this week and do better next time I travel.

Don’t like seeing that scale go up after all the hard work I’ve done. Need to add exercise in to my program, I’m sure that would help!

Back to work after maternity leave. Sometimes it seems like an unending battle to please everyone. Some days it feels like a lot more like loosing battle and throwing in the towel would be a whole lot easier.
Thanks for the reminder that no matter where we are or what we are doing, we are not alone in the struggle. That, more importantly, life’s biggest challenges are the most rewarding. And even if it all goes to hell in a hand basket there is something to be gained and that life will go on.

Now I’m reaaaalllyy regretting that hot fudge sundae that I demolished (minus the hot fudge that somehow ended up on my fingers even though I ate it with a spoon– how does that happen?)!

Yikes. I don’t want to live a life where a piece of cheesecake is a mistake. If cheesecake is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
But really, a diet with zero yummy treats now and then? Not gonna work. Why feel guilty and like you’ve failed just because you want some dessert? I don’t think looking thin is worth all that mental turmoil.
Also, working out all the time is a sign of an eating disorder. :/

      An eating disorder? Really?

I was in the middle of a competition. I was trying to win. I was pretty up front about that two. For 12 weeks I busted my ass. Pretty proud of what I did.

Pretty pissed about the accusation. Don’t throw your baggage on me!

Everything is fine in moderation. If you want a piece of cheesecake… own it. Take a plate and have a piece.

—and seriously Kristen….where did you get the information that “working out all the time is a sign of an eating disorder.” ?

(last time i visited my Dr she told me to work out…..every day…..for a minimum of 30 minutes but try for an hour. I didnt know that she was instructing me to get an eating disorder. Maybe I should fire my Dr and find one that tells me to go to Wendy’s every day and lay on the couch)

    BTW Susie…..you are lookin fantastic!!

Not just an hour or two. Many hours of working out. When Susie was reporting how much she worked out it kind of worried me, but I wasn’t sure if she sounded like she had any other signs. But now with this attitude toward dessert, it kind of raises a red flag. I just think she should think about it.

Again, Kristen, I was in a Biggest Loser type competition. I wanted to win it. So I worked out like a psycho.

        Discipline? Yes.

        Disorder? HELL NO.

As someone who lost 75lbs (many moons ago) and kept it off for years and years….my weight loss team told me exactly the same thing that Susie posted above. If you make a crap choice, dont beat yourself up…own it, shrug, and move on. She didnt say she couldnt HAVE cheese cake….she said she made a crap choice about taking a fork and repeatedly going to the fridge and nibbling on it (after having several desserts already it turns out) but that wasnt the point of the fricken post. The point of the post was this: IF YOU MAKE A CRAP CHOICE, DONT BEAT YOURSELF UP OVER IT.

if you read from the beginning you would know that she initially started her workout/weight loss journey with a contest thru the Y. She was bound and determined to win it. Then the realization hit that working out was doing her a mountain of good and she was getting healthier/happier/less tired/etc. After she was done with the contest she posted that she was going to continue to work out but not at the same vigor as she had. Then she decided to do a triathalon. If you know anything about triathalons they are brutal. You have to train for them…..a lot. Biking, running and swimming. You can’t be sitting poolside shoving cheesecake in your piehole and not work out when you want to participate in a triathalon.

    (eyeroll with a “duh”)
