Most of us set ourselves up to fail before we even start to develop new habits or make changes because we start too big.
We are so focused on the result we want – lose 20 pounds, run a half marathon, declutter the house, finish a book a week – and we forget that results come from consistency, not intensity.
You don’t start training for a marathon by running 13 miles on day one. You need to work up to that.
Same goes for habits.
Start with something you can do every single day without fail. That way you start with something you can sustain.
Start with one minute. I call these “one minute habits.”
One minute of walking.
One minute of reading.
One minute of stretching.
One minute of push-ups.
One minute of tidying.
Everyone has one minute. Start there.
When that one minute becomes part of your day without thinking about it – then you level up.
Maybe you go to two minutes. Or maybe you stack another one-minute habit right on top of it.
Start small.
Start easy.
Start now.
What’s your one-minute habit today?
