Every day in E-School members receive an email from me.
Sometimes the emails are related to the topic we are focusing on that month (it’s Financial February right now) and other times we are doing more reflection/introspection or something more lighthearted (like on Fun Fridays).
Most Sunday emails focus on introspection, and I encourage members to think about what’s going well, what’s not going so well, and what they want to do differently.
We call this our keep/start/stop.
What do you want to keep doing, what do you want to start doing, and what do you want to stop doing.
I don’t usually share my keep/start/stop thoughts in detail with the group, but for whatever reason, this week I did.
And I thought I’d share them here with you, too.
Here’s what last Sunday’s E-School Email said:
Self-Reflection Sunday
Time to reflect.
I want to remind you that any “failures” you had this past week are only guideposts showing you what works and what doesn’t work.
Take some time today to think about this past week.
Give yourself an Atta Girl! for the shit you did well. What’s a win you had this past week?
I had a rough week. I expended so much energy trying to manage my thoughts that I was just fried by Friday. Maybe that’s why they call it Friday.
FRY-day. Because you’re totally fried by the time you get to it.
(unless you are really good at setting boundaries, being realistic, and taking care of yourself consistently)
I’ve only swum twice so far this week. If I compare my swim totals this week to my swim totals from last week I could view it as a fail because I haven’t even done half of the yardage I did last week.
I was not in a great place mentally by Friday. And on Saturday the very last thing I wanted to do was leave my house.
I swam yesterday AND I went to a group “super class” yesterday for Lose to Win.
This is a major win.
I had already given myself permission to skip the class, and I wasn’t going to swim either. I was going to sit in my house and spend the day rationalizing and justifying why I wasn’t swimming or going to the super class.
With the help of my cousin holding me accountable, I dragged my ass out of the house to the pool (only for 25 minutes because that’s all I had time for but I DID IT).
And then I went to the “super class” – 20 minutes of step class, 20 minutes of zumba, and 20 minutes of yoga.
I spent A LOT of time dreading this class.
A LOT OF TIME.
And you know what?
It was actually kind of fun. 🙄
HA!
Another example of how we expend a lot of mental energy worrying about things that might never actually happen and we miss out on things we would have enjoyed because of this way of thinking.
So those were two big wins.
I have a third win.
I SLEPT IN MY BED LAST NIGHT.
I know this is not a big win or big deal for most other people but it is for me!
I slept on the couch for the first 5 days of February.
Looking back, this seems to be directly correlated with how difficult my week was.
I “needed” that time on the couch at night to decompress.
So what did I learn?
When I have really hard weeks mentally and emotionally I need to give myself significantly more opportunities for decompression time during the day so that by the end of the night I’m not completely fried and abandoning all self-care practices.
How about you?
Did you have more than one win this week?
I bet you did.
After you give yourself a little love for the stuff you did well this past week, think about what isn’t serving you.
What SMALL 1% improvement(s) can you make in the area(s) you want to change?
*****
At the end of each email I invite members to comment on a daily prompt in the E-School Facebook group.
It’s a easy way to spend a minute thinking about what you can do that day to move in the direction you wanna go.
So I’ll ask you the same thing!
What’s a win you had last week?
What’s a small, manageable, 1% improvement you can make tomorrow?
Share in the comments on this post! I wanna celebrate your successes with you!
