If at first you don’t succeed, tri, tri again.

Last year I did a sprint triathlon at Shady Beach in Norwalk, CT.

It’s an all-women race and it’s a great race for beginners, although it’s still competitive.

It was the second one I ever did.

My time was a 1:20, and I came in 80th place out of about 180 women.

I was 18th in my age group.

Yesterday, I did the same race again.

They have a little awards ceremony at the end of the race, and they give out medals to the top 3 women in each age group.

This year, I wanted one of those medals.

That was my goal yesterday.

But the 40-44 age group is the most competitive triathlon division for women.

Apparently that’s when female triathletes are pretty hard core.

I didn’t get in the top three.

But the top three 40-44 year-old women have all done Iron Man triathlons, so I didn’t feel too bad.

I did get 19th place.

OVERALL!!!

And I got 5th in my age group.

Pretty close to that medal.

I finished in 1:14.33.

6 minutes faster than last year.

And that’s with a swim course that was longer than it was last year.

And my 5K time?

23:24.

It’s a super flat course.

And the fastest run split was a 19:04.

But still.

For me,

I killed the run.

After swimming half a mile, biking 11 miles, and drinking one, or three, too many glasses of wine the night before.

And on about 3 1/2 hours of sleep.

Next year.

Next year I’m getting a medal.

And in two years?

Iron Man.

Yep.

You heard it here first.

Now…

Here’s the Meghan update:

It’s slow going but this is the second week I’ve been consistent with working out and using the Lose It app. I started at 130 lbs and have been consistently weighing in between 126-127 the last week, even hit 125 one day this week!
Since I’m working out six days/week and staying within my calorie allowance, I can’t imagine this not working. I’m excited to keep it up!
