Dirt Devils

May 8, 2013 by not your average mom 6 Comments

About 6 weeks ago we planted pumpkin seeds.

I wrote about that here.

The seeds grew really well.

So we transplanted them into larger containers.

We used milk jugs that we cut in half and cottage cheese and yogurt containers.

We had a good time,

And we were excited to watch the seedlings  grow even bigger and then be able to plant them in the ground in a couple weeks.

We started to get the garden ready.

That was fun too.

What kid doesn’t love digging in the dirt?

Yesterday my husband worked a really long day.

I didn’t know he was going to get home so late, and I was outside with the kids for a while.

At 6:45 he still wasn’t home, and I figured I’d better get inside and make some dinner.

Most of the kids came inside with me.

Numbers 5 and 6 were having a good time on the slide, so I let them stay outside for a little while longer.

At about 7:00, they came in.

Looking like this.

and this.

It was pretty late, my husband wasn’t home yet, and I had stuff on the stove, so I was really annoyed that I had to stop what I was doing and throw them in the tub.

As I was washing them off, I started thinking.

I thought they had been digging in the garden.

But it hasn’t rained here in a while.

The ground is pretty dry.

There was only one place where there was any wet dirt.

And that was

in.

my.

fucking.

pumpkin.

plants.

Because I had just watered them earlier in the day.

I stopped washing.

“WHERE DID THIS MUD COME FROM?” I yelled.

“From the slide, Mommy,” they said.

Laughing.

“What do you mean,

the slide???”

No.

NO.

NOOOOOOO!

I yanked them out of the tub.

I ran outside.

First I saw this.

Serenity mother effing now.

I don’t know.

I’m not a gardening expert.

But I don’t think the pumpkins are going to grow so well right there.

It was a great idea! And it encouraged to plant some too! My son is 2 so you can imagine how much fun that was. Save the pics so one day when they say “you never did anything with us” you can show them you did!

Ouch, gotta admit, I would’ve lost it. It would’ve gone down in my mental tally of bad mom moments, seriously. That time of day is the hardest as it is!
