In the past couple weeks I have been making getting more sleep a priority.
Sometimes I manage to get to bed at a reasonable hour (like 9:30 PM).
Other times, I make sure I take a nap.
I know sleep is associated with lots of things, including better focus and concentration and weight loss.
I’m also just more pleasant to be around when I get at least 7 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
Sometimes the schedule makes that difficult, though.
Like this weekend.
This Friday, Saturday and Sunday Ingrid has a swim meet at Wesleyan University which is about 45 minutes from our house.
It’s a trials/finals meet, which means she swims in the morning, and then if she finishes in the top 30, she comes back at night to swim again in finals.
She has to be on deck at 6:45 AM for the morning session, and it ends around 11:00 AM.
After the morning session, we drive back home. She takes a nap and relaxes until we have to leave at 2:45 PM to head back to the pool for finals.
Finals starts at 5 PM and ends around 7:30/8 PM.
So we are in the car for three hours total each day.
Yesterday in between trials and finals I ran to the grocery store and then made lunch for the kids.
Today in between sessions I had to run to the bank, get gas, make lunch for everyone, and do a couple other things.
There was no time for me to take a nap at home in between sessions yesterday or today.
And I really needed a nap today.
So I improvised.
And I got my nap in.
Ingrid has to be back at the pool for finals at 3:45 PM.
There is a warm up session from 4-5 PM and finals starts at 5.
Most parents sit in the stands during warm up and just wait for the meet to start.
A few people will bring a book to read. Some people have their laptops. Some people sit with other parents on the same team and just shoot the shit.
A lot of parents pass time looking at their phones.
Not me.
Today I took a nap.
In my car.
And not sitting in my front seat with the seat reclined as far back as it can go.
Nope.
That’s not super comfortable.
I wanted to be comfortable, dammit.
So I brought an inflatable air mattress.
And I blew that sucker up.
And I made it nice and cozy.
And I took a nap in my car on my air mattress.
IT WAS AWESOME 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
From this day forward, the air mattress is staying in the back of the car.
Just in case.
Because you never know when opportunity will strike.
But when it does,
I’M TOTALLY READY.

As a mom of two swimmers, it’s so good to know that I’m not the only mom in the parking lot getting sleep between prelims and finals (because I don’t have any other time to sleep)!! I put a foam mattress in the back of my car and have NEVER regretted my cushy bed on wheels.

improvise, adapt and overcome 💪🏻
