Okay, Moms.
I am starting a challenge.
It will officially begin on Monday, November 19th and run through Sunday, November 25th.
It’s called the Get In The Picture Challenge.
So often we moms are the ones behind the camera.
But we neglect to get in front of it.
Some of us are just so focused on documenting memories and experiences and moments for our children that we forget to include ourselves.
And then there are the rest of us who are just too self-conscious to allow our picture to be taken.
But think about this.
Think how you would feel if you had very few pictures of you with your mother in them.
Or none at all.
If your son or daughter had to bring in a recent photo of you and her to school, would you be able to easily find one?
If not, how bummed do you think your kids will be when they are older?
They will be really bummed!
I believe for most of us who don’t get in those pictures, it’s a self-confidence thing.
I was there.
On the rare occasions I allowed my picture to be taken a few years ago, I made sure I hid behind my kids.
I did not want to be photographed.
Ever.
Gradually, over time, I realized I was being silly.
I was setting a terrible example for my kids — especially my daughters.
My kids won’t care how heavy I was or how many wrinkles I had twenty or thirty or forty years from now.
They will just want some pictures of their mom.
So gradually I started loosening up and I stopped taking myself so seriously and being so critical.
And now my kids will have actual documentation of my existence in their lives.
Whether I look like a mess,
or I’m fancier than normal.
My goal this holiday season is to get all moms IN the pictures with their kids.
That is the goal of the Get In The Picture Challenge.
Each day for seven days you will get a prompt to encourage you or give you ideas for different pictures (if you need them).
You can also just take any picture you want.
You just have to be in them.
I am super excited for this challenge.
There will also be a closed Facebook group for anyone who wants to share their photos.
I am super excited for this! It’s going to be a lot of fun!
This year you will be a part of your Thanksgiving photos.
And hopefully it will be the nudge you need to help you get in front of the camera all the time.
