The 2018 Macroburst

May 19, 2018 by not your average mom 2 Comments

As it turns out, the storm we got here on Tuesday was not a tornado.

It was a macroburst.

What the hell is a macroburst and how is it different from a tornado?

Good question. I had never heard of a macroburst before.

Here’s what it is according to the University of Google:

So a macroburst it basically a big fucking tornado.

The one that came through our town had 110 mph winds, was three miles long, and 9 miles long.

It shredded our town.

Here is an actual picture of it taken from an inn on a lake in our town:

Here are what a few streets looked like yesterday, four days after it hit:

If you had big trees in your yard, chances are at least one of them now looks like this.

This macroburst literally just snapped trees and telephone poles in half.

I am happy to say that we got our power back today.

Unfortunately, our modem got fried, so we have no internet, and we won’t have that until Tuesday at the earliest.

And here is what I realized today.

No internet may be more painful than no power.

First world problems, I know.

So I’m typing this from my parents’ house where they have internet.

I’m happy to have power back. I’m happy our town is getting itself back together bit by bit.

I’m happy the kids will get to sleep in their own beds in their own rooms tonight.

And now I guess it’s time for me to assess my internet dependence.

It makes running an online business a bit of a challenge, but I maybe limited (or no) access to wifi wouldn’t be such a bad thing for our family.

Wow. What pictures. Glad to know that your family is safe though.
I had never heard of this weather word either. Thanks for defining it for us.
What a frightening thing to see, especially for the children.
I hope your internet is back on soon.

The most important thing is you guys are all safe. I was at my moms, in southbury , with my kids, when the storm hit. it was the Most insane thing i have ever experienced.
I thought I read someplace that if the trees are uprooted it was high wind, but if they are snapped off it was a tornado.
These new weather words are all just made up by meteorologists to get better ratings.
    macroburst, bombogenesis, EF1, etc…
    come on…
