It’s the 4th of July which means barbecues and food and booze (not for me but for lots of people) and s’mores (for me) and later than usual nights for lots of kids and fun by the pool (for us) and fireworks.
I love the 4th of July.
So today’s post is super quick.
Just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean you stop taking care of yourself.
In fact, I kinda believe in taking a little extra care of myself on a holiday.
I love to start off the day with a run — I do this on Thanksgiving and I did it today.
It’s so nice to go for a run (or a walk) on a holiday morning because the roads are empty and quiet and it’s so peaceful.
Today I went for a three mile run.
I had planned on four miles, but it was so hot I just couldn’t do it.
So I ran two miles, walked a half mile, ran one mile, then walked another half mile.
I still did four miles in total.
It was a great start to my day.
Now I’ll have a double helping of potato salad, an extra s’more (or two) and really enjoy relaxing with my family and a couple friends.
I’ll still treat myself on special occasions.
But self-care isn’t an occasional thing. Not for me, anyway.
It’s an every day thing.
Happy 4th of July!

I try to sign up for a race on these days….makes the run a bit more fun. We have a Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day and July 4th races my family does, usually together, on these days. Hope you had a great Independence Day!
