Not Your Average Birthday

September 19, 2015 by not your average mom 7 Comments

Yesterday I turned 46.

I’m not going to lie. Even at my advanced age, I still appreciate a good birthday surprise.

My husband isn’t really big on surprises. And this year, especially with the boogie boarding mishap, well, I knew there would be no present from him.

The kids did their usual homemade cards. Like they usually do, my parents gave me money. And I’m grateful for those things. I really am.

But still. Who doesn’t like a surprise?

At least I had a girls night out planned last night at a friend’s house.

I was really looking forward to at least getting out of the house on my special day. That was a nice treat, especially since I’ve been on bedtime duty every night for over a month now.

Before I got in the car to head to my friend’s, I went to the mailbox to get the mail.

I saw an envelope from the salon where I get my hair cut.

Huh.

I thought maybe it was one of those it’s-your-birthday-take-$10-off-something coupons.

I opened up the envelope. Inside that there was a smaller envelope.

I opened that.

And this is what I found:

Holy shit. My Fitness Course Ladies. You are fucking awesome, and I love you all so much.

And I got my surprise after all.

Thank you for making me Number 1!
