It’s the last day of January.
My Facebook feed has been filled with memes about how long and horrible this month has been and how it’s like the 83rd day of January today.
I don’t know about you, but when I see that shit it’s annoying. Because it’s an invitation to start complaining.
Instead of lasering in on all the bullshit January threw at you this month, here’s an idea.
Think about January and focus on the good stuff.
Focus on your wins. Focus on the things you did well. Focus on progress. Focus on how many times you performed a new habit. Focus on the stuff you can control.
We had plenty of challenges this month here in my house. It was a tough month.
And there were lots of things I wanted to do that never got done this month. There’s a good chance they will never get done.
But even with all the stuff I didn’t do and the covid and the strep and the MRI’s and the injuries and physical therapy and missed weeks of school and swimming and multiple rounds of quarantining and snow storms and only 2 days when all the kids were actually been in school, January was also a really good month.
- I swam more yards (14,000+) in January 2022 (actually I swam them all last week) than I did in all of 2021. I’m not exaggerating.
- I closed my Apple watch rings on 26/31 days – in December I closed them ONCE (and I had covid in January)
- I cleaned up my room up and redecorated it (for almost entirely free with stuff from my own house) and I hung up pictures I’ve been meaning to hang up for months. (but I still have a few things to do and I can’t wait to show you what it looks like now.
- I’m really starting to get into a groove with my new virtual assistant/right hand woman and I’m super excited for my future.
- I slept in my bed more than I slept on the couch (but didn’t keep track of nights so I want to do that in February)
- I walked at least a mile on 21/31 days
- we finally got a diagnosis for my 16 year old who’s been suffering from chronic back pain for almost a year (spondyloarthritis) and he started treatment for it and for the first time since March 2021 he was able to run up and down the basketball court and play basketball with a friend. It’s like he’s a whole new kid. It was a long road to finally get to this point and I’m so grateful.
All those things are going to help me get to where I want to be.
Here’s a challenge for you.
Don’t comment on how shitty/horrible/long/awful January has been on any social media posts.
Instead, focus on the actions you took that have either produced results or helped you move closer to the place you wanna be in your life.
And while you’re at it, share a win with me. I wanna hear how you’re kicking ass. 💪

I worked out more days than I didn’t.
I tried on a smaller size jeans and they zipped.
My scale finally moved after 8 weeks being idle.
I am halfway through this very trying schoolyear.
I am hopeful a med change for my son gives him the help he needs.
Thank you for this post!

Keep it up!

Can number 3 still swim with this?

Yes! Keeping active is one of the best things he can do, and he can do whatever his body tolerates (which right now is everything!)

I got some projects done. I feel rested and restored. I applied to be a substitute teacher to help my community! (No word yet if they want me, but I offered to the district.)
Thanks for the space to be positive!!!

Oh, they will want you. It’s just that districts move slowly. A lot of bureaucracy to wade through. I’m glad you are trying to help out! A little extra money never hurt either.
