Between high school and club swim teams, my kids have morning practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
I get up in the “fours” every day, and I’m cooked by the time I get home from coaching my team’s practice and then picking my kids up from their practices.
We are all in bed by 9 just about every night. This doesn’t give us much time to hang out together as a family.
And I definitely don’t have energy or the desire to make dinner and clean the kitchen at 7 pm.
My goal has always been to have dinner ready and the kitchen clean when I leave the house at 2 pm for my practice, but I haven’t been successful with this goal.
That means I almost always go to bed with a sink full of dirty dishes, and I come downstairs at 4 am to a kitchen that’s a mess.
It stresses me out and makes me angry.
And it’s not a fun way to start my day.
I have been trying really really hard to tighten this up and not have to devote any brain power to cooking or cleaning when I get home at night.
I love cooking but the executive functioning is not a strength. At all.
Especially not after I’ve been awake for 15 hours.
I am a lot of things, but lazy is not one of them.
Getting this system in place just does not come naturally at all for me.
Yesterday I did a bunch of meal planning and prep. I got most of this week’s meals made.
Today I left my house for practice at 1:50.
