My kids love hash brown patties like the ones they sell at Dunkin Donuts.
But they don’t love the shredded ones.
A week or so ago I saw a post on Facebook about making hash browns out of tater tots in the waffle maker.
So I Googled waffle maker hash browns and a few recipes popped up using shredded potatoes.
The Pioneer Woman had one, and so I tweaked hers.
I only used two ingredients: hash browns and shredded cheese (I used Mexican).
My waffle maker kind of sucks, so the edges didn’t cook as well as the Pioneer Woman’s did, but they were really good, and the kids loved them.
Here’s what you do:
Thaw a 30 ounce bag of shredded hash browns. I put mine in the microwave for a couple minutes and then patted them with some paper towels to get the moisture out.
Spray the waffle iron with oil and preheat on medium heat.
Sprinkle salt on potatoes and mix.
Put shredded potatoes in each well of the waffle maker. Top with some shredded cheese. Top with some more potatoes.
Cook.
Enjoy!
I couldn’t get my edges to cook very well, but that happens when I make regular waffles, because like I said, my waffle iron is garbage.
Even though they didn’t look perfect, the kids loved them!
It was a fun twist on hash browns.
You can use any kind of cheese, and you could add in ham or whatever else you wanted.
You could probably mix in some egg to bind them together, but these held together well.
I’m definitely gonna make them again!
