21 Holiday Books To Read To Your Kids This Christmas

November 12, 2019 by not your average mom Leave a Comment

A couple weeks ago I put a question up on the Not Your Average Mom Facebook page asking readers to share their favorite Christmas books to read with the kids.

There were so many great suggestions — we haven’t read most of them! I’m really looking forward to reading these this year.

So I thought I’d share them with you.

I’ll check some out of the library if they have them, but I think I might invest in a couple for this advent “calendar” that we do every year.

I’ve included Amazon links in case you want to get some for yourself (they are affiliate links and I earn a small commission at no extra charge to you).

Here they are (with comments if readers left them).

The Little Blue Truck’s Christmas

A Porcupine In A Pine Tree

Christmas In The Country

A Wish To Be A Christmas Tree

A Wish to be a Christmas Tree by Colleen Monroe. The sweetest story and beautiful artwork.

The Night Before Christmas

Anything illustrated by Mary Engelbreit but our 2 faves are Twas the Night Before Christmas and the Nutcracker. The illustrations are just so colorful & detailed… so much for kids to see and notice on every page!

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

Holly Claus The Christmas Princess

Snowmen At Night

We were big fans of the Snowmen at Night, Snowmen at Christmas, etc… love the rhyming, the illustrations, and the hidden pictures.

When Cows Come Home For Christmas

It’s so cute and funny and has a great lesson.

This is the Stable

This Is The Stable by Cynthia Cotton…beautiful wording and illustrations.

The Christmas Mystery

We read The Christmas Mystery by Jøstein Gaarder each year. The chapters are set out like an advent calendar so you can read one each night starting the first of December. It was given to us as a gift when we lived in Norway. My daughter was 2 then and 13 years later, we still look forward to it!

The Lonely Scarecrow

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Sweet Smell of Christmas

Santa Mouse

Lily and the Paper Man

Construction Site on Christmas Night

Once There Was A Christmas Tree

The Long Winter

Home Alone

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Happy Reading!
