With the craziness of our weeknights, I really want to bring back the Sunday night dinner whenever I can.
Tonight I did.
I had planned out dinners for the week last Monday, and I had everything I needed already.
Here’s what was on the menu tonight:
Roast chicken:
(I used this recipe from Allrecipes.com. Everyone who ate it liked it. We have some non-meat eaters who skipped the chicken).
Garlicky Green Beans With Pine Nuts:
(I used this recipe from Realsimple.com. These were delicious and super easy to make. I am making them again for Thanksgiving.)
Mashed potatoes with a healthy amount of butter, salt, and whole milk. I used gold potatoes from Costco.
A tossed salad. I threw what we had in there, including grape tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts and carrots.
Crescent rolls.
You can’t go wrong with crescent rolls.
It was nice to sit down as a family.
We had ice cream and a store bought pumpkin pie for dessert.
I really want to keep this up, because it was the perfect way to finish the weekend.
After nice, relaxed Sundays, we had family dinner when I was a kid and early-to-bed Sunday nights.
Tonight feels just like that.
The only thing missing is Wild Kingdom and a Disney Sunday Night Movie like Herbie the Love Bug or Flubber or Escape From Witch Mountain.
So we’re getting ready to watch some Little House on the Prairie instead which is just as good if you ask me.
Maybe even better.
It’s been a nice Sunday.

Always had Sunday dinners growing up. We lived in Weston and grandparents lived in Georgetown. Went to their house every Sunday with my Mother’s Brothers family and my cousins. Best memories ever!! Kept this up after they were gone until the July of this year. Our last two sons moved out of the house. So empty nesters now. Oldest son is in Texas and younger two live within several miles of us but they have their own life.

Try Ina Garden’s Engagement chicken for a super easy, super good roast chicken!

I started what I call Fancy Sunday a year ago. The kids love it. I use place mats and light candles. We drink out of wine glasses. I have three boys. And I hope this will become a tradition that sticks into their adulthood and brings them home to me. ❤

I love it! I just checked out Escape from Witch Mountain at the local library for my kids to see.
