It’s 10:33 p.m. and my kitchen is a mess and I haven’t written a post yet today and I really want to go to bed, but I haven’t missed a post in twenty-four days so I’m still on a Massive Action Roll and I’m not gonna fuck it up today.
But my brain is also not working at its best right now, so I’m just gonna tell you about my day which will make for pretty much the lamest post ever, but a post is a post and also now that I have taken a minute to think about my day, I actually did kind of a lot.
I decided I was going to do the equivalent of a sprint triathlon this morning to get my butt moving and actually start training for this triathlon.
I rode my bike for the first time in almost a year this morning — 11 miles.
Then I ran 3 miles.
Then I went to the Y and swam a half mile.
I planned out my meals for the week.
I went to ShopRite and Costco and did my big shop. I even returned a bunch of cans.
I did some work in my office.
I did a Facebook live for Not Your Average Tribe.
I made eggplant on the grill for the first time ever and I liked it but I didn’t peel the skin off and I kind of wish I had.
I also made this corn and tomato salad suggested by a reader:
Corn and Tomato Salad
2 ears of fresh sweet corn
1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes halved
2 tbsp fresh cilantro chopped
juice of 1 lime
3 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 clove garlic minced
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Remove husks from corn and grill over medium heat for 10 minutes (I have also boiled mine for ease and its just as good). The corn should have some brown spots and be tender and not mushy. Let cool slightly before cutting the corn off the cob. Add tomatoes and cilantro.
To make the dressing, whisk together the lime juice, olive oil, honey, garlic, and salt and pepper. Pour over the corn mixture and gently toss to combine. Refrigerate for at least 10-15 minutes before serving.
Except I didn’t have cilantro or lime — but I used lemon — and it was REALLY good still and I’m going to write a blog post about that at some point but you should make it because it was YUMMY.
My kids wouldn’t eat it because it had tomatoes in it but I don’t care because there’s more for me.
I watched an episode of Little House On The Prairie with Number 4, 5, 6, and 7 — we have the entire series on DVD and we are on season 3 disc 4 right now (there are 9 seasons).
I got the little guys into bed and then Number 4 and I watched the second episode of Stranger Things (season 3).
I am so nostalgic for the 80’s after watching that show and now I get why my dad loves to watch A Christmas Story over and over and over again.
And now it’s 10:47, I am still on a post-writing roll, and I’m going to go clean up the kitchen so it’s not a total shithole when I wake up in the morning.
Just to make you feel better, here’s a picture of it in its current state:
If you look closely you will see that the shade on my door fell apart so I currently have a flannel bed sheet thumb tacked to it, and I tack the other side up when the sun is out and then take one tack off when the sun goes down because I’m super classy like that.
And that was my Sunday.
How was yours?
Tara says
Oh my Sunday kind of sucked. Kiddo has been in the hospital since Friday with a bloodstream infection. But at least I got to go home and shower! Ha!
I love how real you are. Do you really like to exercise? I wish I did. I always feel so awkward. But my doctor told me last week I had better so when I get out of here. Trying to get small walks around here in at least!
Glad you posted! I would have left the kitchen at that point, I am not going to lie.
