100 Days of Yoga

May 2, 2016 by not your average mom 3 Comments

Last week we finished cleaning out and organizing the office.

Once  it was decluttered and opened up, I was able to really look at the space with new eyes.

And one of the things I did was make this cozy little reading  spot for the kids.

They love it.

Spending time in this room with this new calm and cozy and inviting vibe, I started thinking.

I discovered yoga about a year and a half ago, and I discovered a studio I really like to go to.

But the class I really like to go to is at 6 a.m., and  that’s the time my husband leaves for work.

There are other classes during the day, but they are tough for me to get to with the kids’ schedules.

So I’ve kind fallen off the yoga bandwagon.

Until today.

Because I realized today that this space doesn’t just make a cozy playroom.

It makes a really great yoga studio.

And today, for the first time in close to a year, I did yoga.

And for the first time ever, I did it in my own house.

Well, actually, that’s not true. I tried yoga at home once before, but that didn’t go down as I had planned.

But that was two years ago.

Now the kids are a little older.

And today it was calm and peaceful and exactly what I needed.

Because I’m feeling really stressed lately. And the stress is making me scattered and inefficient and not nearly as productive as I need or want to be. And it’s making me bitchy. Er.

So today while Number 7 was a preschool, I cranked up the space heater, made it nice and warm like it is in my favorite hot yoga studio, lit some candles, and I did twenty minutes of yoga.

It felt great. My body felt great, and my head felt great.

A week or so ago I discovered the 100 Days Project. The 100 Days Project is  “a celebration of process that encourages everyone to participate in 100 days of making. The great surrender is the process; showing up day after day is the goal. For the100-Day Project, it’s not about fetishizing finished products—it’s about the process… Choose your action, which you will perform every day for 100 days…Select a unique hashtag for your project so all your instances of 100 can be viewed in one place. Include the hashtag with each of your posts (i.e. #100Daysof____ )…Share each instance of 100 on Instagram and include your unique hashtag and the official projects hashtag, #The100DayProject, so everyone can follow along. (Note: If you find this after the 4/6 start date, you can still join in and catch up or finish later.)…”

I discovered this project accidentally through a blog reader who was participating in it.

I really wanted to join in, but I wasn’t sure of what action I wanted to perform.

Until today.

Today was day 1/100 of yoga.

I need this for my mind. And my body.

I really want to make it a habit.

So I’m going for 100 consecutive days of yoga.

If you want to follow along I’m notyouraveragemomofficial on Instagram.

If you want join in with your own 100 day project, you can start at any time! Anybody wanna join me? I’d love some support! If you let me know you’re doing it, I’ll follow and support you, too.

I don’t know if I’ll make it, but I’m sure going to try.

Cause life is all about the journey, and part of mine started today.

Please keep voting!

I do yoga at home as well! I want to commit to the 100 days because I notice a huge difference when I do it frequently. It also helps reduce injuries and tightness when I run. I’m loving the “yoga studio” app. What are you using at home?

Sarah Beth Yoga has great free videos. I always feel better on a regular Yoga practice. 🙂
