3 Awesome Dresser Transformations

March 7, 2014 by not your average mom 2 Comments

Back in September I got all of this stuff for free on the side of the road:

I finally got around to refinishing some of it.

My dad and I are working as a team.

I’m basically coming up with the ideas and providing him with the materials. He’s doing most of the painting…

Because you know what happens when I have paint here in my house…

I forgot to take before pictures of the first two, but I cropped them out of the first picture.

First is the lime green dresser:

It had tiny, wooden knobs on it that I really didn’t like.

So, I replaced them with the cheapest brushed nickel knobs I could find at Lowe’s.

I bought 3 different colors of Benjamin Moore paint (Jamaican Aqua, Tropicana Cabana, and Poolside Blue) all on the same paint chip.

I painted the frame Jamaican Aqua, and the drawer fronts Poolside Blue, and I replaced the hardware.drersser 2 before and after

It turned out great!

Next was the smaller dresser/cabinet.

It looked like crap.

But a little Benjamin Moore Yellow Raincoat and some pink spray paint on the hardware and ….

Voila!

How cute is that?

Then, in October as my parents were driving to their house after leaving my house, they spotted this dresser on the side of the road.

They called me to let me know about it.

I drove right over and threw it in the back of my car.

It was pretty beat up.

I held on to it until a couple months ago when I showed it to a friend who asked if I had any dressers.

I was going to paint it, but then she posted this picture to my Facebook page asking if I could possibly do something along the lines of this:

The top of the dresser was some sort of crappy laminate veneer. Stripping it was going to be impossible.

So we sanded down the drawer fronts and restained them.

Then we removed the top, and my dad replaced it with a couple pieces of pine that he glued together and stained to match the drawers.

He painted the frame white, and I distressed it a little bit.

Aaaaaand….

Here it is:

Beautiful!

You’d be surprised at the life you can breathe back into a piece of furniture with just a little bit of paint!

I saw an idea where you take an old chair and it becomes a shelf, towel rod. Search Pintrest.
