I have always had a dream of owning an RV.
For a number of reasons.
One, I want to travel across the country with all the kids.
As it is right now, we can’t all fit in one vehicle. And even if we could, traveling across country and stopping to stay in hotels for all of us would cost like a bazillion dollars because we’d need to get more than one hotel room.
Two, when we get back on our feet financially, I want to go back to North Carolina for vacation every summer like we used to. And the trip would be way more fun in an RV. Plus, we could drive straight through no problem, and we wouldn’t have to stop and pay to sleep anywhere.
Three, I still have dreams of getting speaking engagements all over the place. Like across the country. And when that happens, I’d love to be able to take the whole family with me.
Four, if we had an RV, we could probably afford to take everyone to Disney World.
But RVs cost a lot of money.
And then tonight I hosted a wine tasting (did you know that I work with the Traveling Vineyard and do in-home wine tastings? I can do one at your house. Message me. They’re fun. )
Anyway, a family of six came to the wine tasting a little late, and I was talking to the dad, who told me that they were late because he was looking at a bus.
A school bus.
To buy.
Because he wants to convert it into an RV.
Wait.
What?
Convert a bus into an RV?
You can do that?
Why the hell didn’t I think of that?
My husband is a master carpenter.
And my father is a retired diesel mechanic.
Um…
I got home and went immediately onto Pinterest.
Holy cow.
Did you know you could turn this:

Into this?
And then this?
Or this?

So yeah.
I’m adding this to my goals list.
And my vision board.
And if anyone has a school bus they’d like to get rid of, let me know.

Great plan! I can’t wait to see the finished product! My sisters husband took an old ambulance and turned it into a food truck. He also did that to a small school bus too. I wish I had pictures. He (and a bunch of staff) take the food trucks to farmers markets and sell ice cream, burgers, lasagna and drinkable yogurt. All organic. They own an organic dairy farm that they use for this and the beef too I think. They are wildly popular at the Farmers Markets they go to (Ohio and surrounding States)

We have 8 kids, and my husband has been wanting an RV for quite a while, it would liberate us in many ways. We were able to get a 15 passenger van recently and I’m beyond ecstatic with it. That being said we have some friends so did the school bus conversion and it’s a lot of work, but well worth it!!!! My husband is a mechanic but not much of a carpenter, so we are still weighing our options. Good luck with your build!!!

My husband and his 5 siblings lived in a bus/RV conversion thingy as children. It’s totally do-able. They even hooked up a TV to the battery!

If anyone can do it, you can! I hope you get the chance.
