I rarely take the kids shopping with me. There are just too many of them, so I go when I have a babysitter, or I go at night.
Yesterday I made an exception and ran into Costco really quickly with Number 3 and Number 4 after their swim practice. Number 4, especially, is easily excitable and impressed by just about anything since being in a store is such a rarity.
“Mom! Look! They have towels!”
“Mom! Look at these crackers!”
So nothing is quick with her because she has to stop and look at (and touch) everything. Yesterday I was really in a rush, so I must have said “Number 4, let’s go!” about 25 times.
I had a short list of things to get, and only about 15 minutes. I stuck to my list, rushed to the cash registers, and miraculously found a lane with nobody in it.
I told Number 3 and Number 4 to stay right next to the cart and not to touch anything. I was pretty much throwing the stuff from my cart onto the belt, and not paying attention to them. Two people got in line behind us, but I didn’t pay attention to them either.
“Mom!” said Number 4.
I was trying to find my checkbook in my purse, so I was pretty distracted.
“MOM!” said Number 4, this time a little louder.
I still couldn’t find my stupid checkbook.
Number 4 couldn’t take it anymore.
“MOM! They have Chinese people at Costco!!!”
Hmmm. Maybe I need to take her out a little more often.
But there’s no way I’m taking her to Walmart.
