Vegetative Propogation

May 4, 2020 by not your average mom 1 Comment

This morning, one of the members of my membership group shared this video:

https://www.facebook.com/buzzfeedtasty/videos/1050375352013589/?v=1050375352013589

She had started some of her own scallions a few days ago, and they were growing like crazy.

I had been wanting to try this with scallions for a while, but I just never got around to it.

Until yesterday.

I put the ends of a few scallions in some water in a small jelly jar.

They have already started to grow, especially the two on either end.

Today I needed to add some water to them.

Number 4 was in the kitchen making cookies when I was doing this.

“Oh!” she said.

“That’s vegetative propogation.”

I wasn’t quite sure what to say.

Because honestly I had never heard that term.

“It’s also a form of asexual reproduction,” she continued.

What the.

“How do you know this?” I asked her.

“That’s what we’re learning about in science,” she said.

I’m gonna be honest.

I came right into my office and Googled vegetative propogation and asexual reproduction because I had to verify her information. I also didn’t want her to know that she was saying shit I was completely clueless about.

She was 100% correct.

Of course.

Are the kids getting dumber now that they’ve been stuck at home for 53 days?

Nope.

But I think there’s a pretty good chance that I am. 🤪
