This table was another side-of-the-road freebie.
Nothing fancy.
I could have just painted it.
But I had a little more of a vision for this one…
I had to enlist the help of my husband.
He’s got a lot of scrap wood in his shop, and since we are in a rough financial spot right now, we are trying to utilize whatever we have here at the house and kill two birds with one stone.
You know, reduce, reuse, and recycle.
I guess that’s three birds.
Anyway, I wanted to turn this into more of a kids’ desk and add a couple shelves to the table.
I didn’t want to take up too much of the surface of the desk, but the shelves needed to be deep enough to put books and stuff on.
So I asked my husband to extend the back of the legs, and then build a simple shelf, about 6 inches deep to place on top of it.
Then he primed it.
He added a piece of plywood that he a already had onto the back.
Then, we painted the whole thing white.
We painted the surface of the desk with chalkboard paint.
And now….
It looks like this:

How freaking cute is that?
A little creativity and thinking outside the box, or desk, goes a long way!
