Number 4 has been talking about playing in the band since she was in kindergarten.
She couldn’t wait until fourth grade for many reasons, but one of the biggest was being able to play an instrument in the band.
Yesterday, her dream finally came true when we rented her a saxophone.
She was beside herself.
She had her first lesson today at school, and then this afternoon when she got off the bus, she was so excited she didn’t even come inside.
Around 4:00, I asked Number 3 if he knew where Number 4 was.
“She’s outside playing her sax,” he told me.
I went outside.
And there she was. Sitting in the grass, happy as could be.
I don’t know what’s going to become of this, but I love that she chose this instrument. There is something pretty cool about a saxophone playing chick.
And I hope it’s as fun for her as she has been anticipating these past four years.
But for right now, I am going to soak up the happiness she is getting from this.
When your kids are crying and fighting and whining and not following the directions and being little tools, being a parent totally blows.
But these moments when they are genuinely experiencing true joy?
They totally make up for them.
And then some.
