Tomorrow I have my first speaking engagement at the Brookfield Public Library.
My talk is entitled Staying Sane Through Motherhood.
Look how official I appear to be in the flier they made for me:
I know.
I’m. So. Fancaaaaay…
I’m also so nervous. For a couple reasons.
First, I’m not even done with my Power Point presentation. Which means I haven’t actually practiced what I’m going to say yet.
But there’s something else that I’m even more nervous about…
I also have a second speaking engagement lined up on April 20th at the Easton Public Library.
I just nailed that down last week. It took a little convincing.
The woman in charge of programming wanted me to call her.
She had a couple questions.
I explained to her what I intended to cover in my presentation.
And she said, “That sounds interesting. But…
I checked out your blog, and I was reading your About page. ”
Uh-oh.
“Well, I’m a little concerned because you said, If the [f-word] bothers you, this is probably not the blog for you…
Um… I’m afraid some of our parents attending might be a little… conservative.”
So I assured her I would do the Tonight Show version of my presentation.
I promised there would be no f-bombs.
She laughed.
I’m not sure if it was because she thought that was funny or if I was making her nervous.
Nevertheless, she agreed to have me.
I have a friend who works at the Brookfield Library where tomorrow’s presentation is.
I texted her.
Is there a swearing policy at the library? How close to R can I get?
She replied with, I’d keep it fairly clean.
Fuck.
I mean, Darn.
Now I need to pick out a new outfit cause I was totally going to wear this shirt:
So yeah.
I still don’t know exactly what the bleep I’m going to say.
But that’s not making me half as nervous as making sure I don’t let any fucks slip out for a whole entire hour.
If you’re free tomorrow night, come have a listen.
Either way,
fucks or no fucks,
it should be at least a little bit entertaining.
And even if I’m rated G (ok… PG-13) I’m planning on seriously delivering, and this being the start of a whole new chapter for me.
You wouldn’t want to miss that.
Because then you can say you were there when it all began 😉

Thanks Kay!

any chance of you recording it and posting it on youtube for all of us not in the area?

I was thinking about that yesterday. I didn’t think to ask anyone to do that… if not this time around, I’ll record the one in April 😉

Just pretend you’re talking to a classroom full of kids. I’m fairly confident that in your years as a teacher, your classroom was not filled with ‘fucks’.

A bunch of us from the Brookfield Mom’s club will be there! You’ll do great!

Love your blog and that your not afraid to use the “F” word, I recently started a blog and its showed me I don’t need to be scared to say what I want especially since I live in a state where people tend to be more judgmental.

I love your honesty, humor and the way you interact with your children! I can sense your love. Congratulations on your speaking engagement. I am working on doing some of those in my hometown as well, and talking about the ups and downs of raising my exceptional son who has autism.
