Wanna help Not Your Average Mom out?
If you are doing holiday shopping this year on Amazon, please click on that link over there on the right in the sidebar to do it (or down at the bottom of this post if you are on your phone).
It costs you nothing extra but gives me a small commission and helps me offset the costs of maintaining the blog.
Thank you! And Happy Holidays!
When you are on the swim team and compete in swim meets, you race against other kids in your age group.
The age groups are 8 & under, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and 15 & over.
In each age group every year, there is a Top 16 times list for every event for boys and girls, and if you make it into the Top 16, you are invited to the Top 16 Banquet.
It’s kind of a big deal for kids to get on that list and be invited to the banquet.
Especially if you are younger.
Number 3 is ten years old, and this past season he was in the top 16 in a couple of the 9/10 events, so he got invited to the banquet, and I made a reservation for the two of us to attend.
I had proudly told my parents about the fact that Number 3 made it onto the list.
This past Friday my parents came up to the house when all the kids were at school.
My mom saw a swimming jacket on the dining room table and she asked me, “When is that Top 16 banquet for Number 3?”
Shit… when was it?
I had forgotten to write it on the calendar, and I prayed that it wasn’t this weekend because I had a whole bunch of crap I wanted to get done.
I ran upstairs to the computer to check and see when the banquet was going to be.
I walked downstairs two minutes later.
The banquet wouldn’t mess up my plans for the weekend.
Because it had already happened.
Two weeks ago.
We missed the whole damn thing.
Whoops.
Number 3 made it onto the Top 16 Fastest Swims list.
And I made it onto the Top 16 Mom Fails.
Hopefully next year he makes the list again.
And hopefully next year, I don’t.

“And I made it onto the Top 16 Mom Fails.”
Haha, well hey, we all “fail” sometimes ;). Even us super hero parents have our limits!
