The best part of my day yesterday happened at Costco.
After leaving Numbers 5, 6, and 7 at home with my husband, going to two basketball games, dropping Number 2 off at the Y, and dropping Number 3 off at a birthday party, I headed over to do some grocery shopping with Number 4.
Just me and my girl.
She asked if she could help me.
Of course, I told her.
She sang as she took things from the shelf and loaded them into the cart for me.
She got in some peoples’ way, as she obliviously cut them off, skipping from the cart, to the shelves, and back to the cart.
Some people were annoyed by her, but most people got a kick out of her.
She was pretty happy.
Being alone anywhere with one of the kids is a rarity and, apparently, a treat.
Even at Costco.
“Mommy! This is fun!” she said to me.
We pushed the cart together. I had one hand on the bar, and one hand on Number 4.
I rubbed her back and told her, “You are being a really good helper.”
And she stopped, looked up at me, and said,
“I love you, Mommy.”
Not because I had bought her something, or because we were going to the movies, or because I told her we she was getting a treat, or that we were about to do anything else special.
Simply because we were walking through Costco,
just the two of us.
Like I said,
the best part of my day yesterday happened at Costco.
