The kids are with me for the next couple weeks and there’s no money in the budget for a vacation, so we are doing a staycation this year.
Yesterday we loaded up the car with the bikes and beach stuff and food and we headed to Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT.
I’ve been going to this beach since I was a baby, and while it’s not Carolina Beach, my favorite beach in the world, it’s a great place to take the kids, especially now that they’re a little older and don’t require a playground to keep them occupied (there’s no playground at Sherwood Island).
There are two decent sized beaches, a nice walking/biking path, lots of picnic tables and shady places to sit, places to fish and watch birds and relax.
We chilled out for a while when we first got there.
The kids went swimming and we ate and listened to music and relaxed.
Marit got a pair of rollerblades at Savers and she wanted to practice, so Gretchen, Kasen and I rode bikes while she rollerbladed.
The road/sidewalk was a little bumpy, but the pavillion was perfect for her.
We rode around and explored and just had a really nice, relaxing day.
Nobody wanted to leave but I had a meeting at 5:30. Otherwise we would have stayed all night!
We’ve decided we’re going back again and taking dinner with us and staying until the sun goes down.
We can’t wait!
Day 2 of Staycation was awesome!
