The first case of the Coronavirus was officially diagnosed in my town today.
School closed last Friday.
The YMCA closed last Friday.
All the school and town playgrounds were officially closed a couple days ago.
My family began social distancing last Thursday.
And yet, in my town, people are still having playdates.
People are still having sleepovers.
People are still having parties.
I am still getting playdate invitations.
Listen, People.
I am annoyed and really bummed and sad and heartbroken about the whole goddamned world being closed.
I agree. It fucking blows.
Number 3’s high school championship swim meet was cancelled. His swim team banquet was cancelled.
Number 4’s championship swim meet was cancelled.
They haven’t announced it yet, but there is no way in hell the kids are going back to school this year.
There is no way.
That means Number 4 will have no 8th grade graduation, no 8th grade dance, and no 8th grade moving up ceremony.
Number 6 will not have his 4th grade party which is a super fun party for the whole entire grade where they rent out the entire outdoor YMCA and they have a dj and spend the whole day swimming outside and playing and eating ice cream and having fun and the 4th graders look forward to it every year.
Summer swim season is in jeopardy of not happening at all. My oldest two are really really bummed about that.
My mom is going through chemo, and I can’t see her or my dad. At all. Indefinitely.
We have all been really inconvenienced and really let down.
Aside from the inconvenience, life as we know it is much more challenging than normal.
It’s not easy to be home all day every day with five kids.
It’s not easy to work from home every day with five kids in the same house.
It’s not easy to have zero time away from the kids and to myself.
It’s not fun to not know what the fuck is going on with basically anything.
I don’t want to do this either!
I don’t want fucking blanket forts in my bedroom 24/7 and to be semi homeschooling for the next 3 months.
I want some freedom and some space and I want all my events to be reinstated and I don’t want any more shit to be cancelled.
But we are all being disappointed and heartbroken and frustrated and bored together.
ALL OF US.
Well, some of us are.
And all of you who are thinking this is a joke, who are not taking this seriously, who are setting up playdates because your kids are driving you crazy and because you just don’t want to deal with them being home for so long,
you are just stretching the whole fucking social distancing thing out for everyone even longer.
AND YOU ARE REALLY PISSING OFF THE REST OF US WHO ARE SUCKING IT UP, BEING GROWN UPS, AND DEALING WITH IT.
AND I AM REALLY FUCKING MAD.
Can you tell?
Come on, People.
It sucks for everyone.
Don’t make it suck more.
Don’t make it suck for longer.
Figure it out.
Get creative.
Change your mindset.
Be responsible.
Be an adult.
And please, please, PLEASE.

Please tell us how you really feel? I totally appreciate this post. I was just explaining to my friend that I do not believe our town is taking this serious enough. I just had the conversation with my 8th grader about all that “may not” happen and it sucks but a lot more can and will suck if we do not ensure our families understand this and the steps being taken are for not only our families well being but our neighbors, and co-workers, etc. I see this as a chance for me as a working mom to slow down and listen, and watch and embrace all of the forts, the teaching and the absolute utter bullshit insanity in the days ahead.

You said it, friend. It’s sucks for all of us. But the sooner we ALL get on board, the sooner it ends.

Yes! This!!!! I have been trying to reenforce this with my older teens. No you can not have friends over, no you can no go there. No you can NOT go to Walmart, et. et. We are all dealing. My oldest is a senior in high school. We are bracing her for a canceled senior prom and even graduation. It sucks. It all sucks. But we will do the best we can and come out of it as not the jerks that went to the beach or took a dang vacation during this time “off”. Keep being awesome. Be safe.

Beautifully said! Thank you! ❤️

I was talking to someone today who just had no clue how bad this is going to be if we don’t all do our part and stay home. There is a huge reason why they have shut the malls, the playgrounds, the restaurants and why all sporting events and concerts have been cancelled.

Amen!
We live out on eastern Long Island and all of the people from the city have come out to their summer homes and are going about life as if there isn’t a care in the world. Our grocery store shelves are bare because they are stocking their homes. It’s maddening. We’ve been home since last Thursday too. Doing the best we can. Lots of walks in the trails by our home and trying to stay sane.
