There are plenty of “pros” when it comes to having a lot of kids.
There is always someone to play with.
They learn to cooperate. And share.
Hide and seek, basketball games, and tag are all possible at any time.
And the little kids are exposed to things like lacrosse, and band, and swim team at an early age.
There is that trickle down effect.
But that trickle down effect has its drawbacks.
Especially in the language department. And the words you absolutely don’t want them to learn are the ones that spread like wildfire.
First there was the the shitstorm a couple weeks ago.
Well lately I’ve been fighting a losing battle in the “shut up” department.
I really don’t like shut up.
I think it’s way worse than shit.
So last night, we were having another Norman Rockwell moment, coloring Christmas pictures by the fire and, you know, making memories.
We were joking around, and Number 3 very lovingly said to me, “Mom, shut up!”
He was trying to be funny, so we had the conversation about how it’s not okay to say shut up, even if you are joking.
“Oh. Okay. Sorry Mom.”
He went back to coloring.
“Then, Mom… shut your piehole.”
Yeah.
I don’t think he quite gets it.

Susie this is hilarious! I totally know the feeling, I thought I had problems when my kids were younger and now they’re just starting high school and I have critical little wanna-be adults living in my house who think they run the world. It’s all I can do to tell myself “this too shall pass”. As a witness to my start of high school breakdown a friend of mine recommended a book they read in book club, “Rusty Goes to Prom” – a short humor novel written through the eyes of a 50-something high school janitor. I laughed so hard and for a few hours felt a bit better that I’m not the only one in this boat. Anyhow, if you get a few moments to yourself to check it out it’s a quick read and only $.99 on eBook and I think you’d find it pretty entertaining. The author’s website is http://www.mikeronny.com. Good luck and keep the great posts coming!
