We have an inground pool at home.
I am the one who runs it, cleans it and maintains it.
But we have always used a pool company to open and close the pool because I just didn’t think I knew enough to do that myself. And it’s a couple hundred bucks to open the pool, but I’ve never really thought twice about it because I didn’t have to stress about doing it, and I know it’s done the right way.
But if you don’t schedule the pool opening early, they get booked up and then you have to wait a long time.
Which is what happened to me this year. I totally forgot to call to schedule the pool opening. We usually open it in early May so it’s ready to use Memorial Day weekend.
By the time I called last week the earliest opening they had was May 31st which is obviously after Memorial Day.
The kids would be really bummed, and to be honest, I was really really bummed.
I asked them to let me know if there was any chance I could get moved up in line, and they told me they’d let me know if there were any cancellations.
I thought about calling the owner because I know him, but I didn’t want to be that guy.
And then a couple days ago I wrote a post about how I helped my friend out with her lawn mower and how she felt so empowered and then I was like
FUCK IT. I’M NOT WAITING FOR THE DAMN POOL GUYS. I’M GONNA OPEN THAT FUCKER MYSELF.
So I went to the University of You Tube, watched about 4 videos, called my dad to see if he wanted to be my assistant, and today, for the first time in the ten years that we have lived at our house,
I opened the pool myself.
Why I waited so long to do this, I’m not sure.
But all I can say is that today, there is one less thing I need help with, and one more thing I can do all by myself.
And that feels pretty fucking good.
