A couple weeks ago, Number 5 came downstairs from her room to tattle on her sister.
“Mommy! Number 4 put stickers all over her dresser!”
I was a little annoyed.
I went up to yell at her.
But then I saw the dresser.
She pretty much decoupaged it, and I thought it looked pretty cool.
This happened just after I started seriously refocusing on the furniture business in order to pay for Alice, and I thought, I should do that to a piece of furniture.
That led me to the computer, which eventually led me to…
Pinterest.
And I broke down and joined.
Now I knew nothing about Pinterest.
NOTHING.
So after joining and having a 5 hour Pinterest binge, I finally turned off the iPad.
Well, I didn’t actually turn it off.
It ran out of batteries.
Otherwise I would have been on there for a few more hours.
The next day, I could not wait to get back to another Pinterest bingefest.
I needed more decoupaging ideas.
This time I logged on from my computer, and there were all these pictures there.
What the hell was that stuff?
I started scrolling.
Huh.
Someone I know is contemplating a new, short hairstyle.
Someone else I know has a serious thing for glass tcotchkes.
And more than one of my friends is seriously in love with Adam Levine.
So I learned my first lesson about Pinterest.
People can see your shit.
I didn’t know that.
I thought it was kind of like having a bunch of file folders on your computer for stuff that you like.
Which I guess it is.
Except it’s a bunch of file folder that the whole fucking world can see.
I didn’t know that people followed you.
Now, I was fairly disciplined that first night on Pinterest.
I didn’t stray too much.
But it is kind of an If You Give a Mouse a Cookie kind of a thing.
You can get distracted by other pictures, and while you may have started out looking for decoupaging ideas, you can easily, and quickly, end up looking at pictures of how to make your own glove mold hand for a jewelry display or 21 things you should know about essential oils or how to make your own herb infused whatever in a mason jar.
I only made three categories.
Or whatever you call them.
Thank God they were tame.
I mean, I could have gone crazy and made some files called Dudes with Huge Packages or People I think are Total Assholes.
So I still have a lot to learn.
Like how to pin stuff on there that’s not already on Pinterest.
And some people have asked where to find me because they want to follow me.
Well, I can tell you that I just opened up a Not Your Average Mom Pinterest account. Or page. Or whatever you call it.
It doesn’t have anything on it yet, but that’s the one I’m going to use.
How you find that to “follow” it, I couldn’t tell you.
Is there a link to my page? A web address?
I have no idea.
If you have any pointers for me, let me know.
Until then, I’ll be looking at pictures of repurposed dressers.
Or oatmeal creme cookie sandwiches.
Or how to make the perfect smoky eye.
Or race car party beverage ideas…

Hi. First I have to say, I fell in love with her art on her dresser, and the dresser. Simply because it is an older dresser and has been obviously loved. All our dresser are old and shabby. The other thing I have to say is, is there anyway you can make it so anyone can comment without having to make a log in for wordpress, that is super frustrating. The only reason I made an account, was to simply say how weird it is not to just be able to comment, without logging in.

You know, I had no idea you had to log in to WordPress to leave a comment…I am looking into it. No wonder no one has been commenting lately.

There is so much to learn about Pinterest! I’d say that it’s just a great place to find inspiration and come u with new ideas, and then sharing those new ideas once you put them to use. I would totally share the dresser (or maybe your own creative take on it) on Pinterest
