When my husband and I got married, I had a yellow lab named Silas.
He was about 8 at the time.
He was not a well-behaved dog.
He jumped on the furniture.
He ate food off the counters.
He chewed the straps off of bras and the crotches out of underpants.
One Halloween, he got a hold of about 4 pounds of candy and ate every single piece of it. Wrappers and all.
He was pooping out Hershey’s foil for 3 or 4 days.
But he was very loyal, and he was my buddy.
Kind of like Number 4, but in dog form.
Before I met my husband, Silas got loose.
I didn’t realize for quite some time that he was even missing. By the time I did, I had no idea where the hell he was.
I drove around town looking, but it was kind of pointless. He could have been anywhere.
He did have a tag on his collar with my number on it, so I just waited for someone to hopefully call.
About 6 hours after I realized he was gone, my phone rang.
A woman about 4 miles away had him.
But he didn’t show up at her house.
The woman had been watching a basketball game at the high school, which was about 4 miles in the other direction.
The gym at the high school is on the far end of the building. The door to the outside was propped open to let some fresh air in.
Silas apparently wanted to play basketball.
He was literally running around on the court in the middle of the game.
So this nice woman took him to her house so that the dog warden didn’t lock him up.
And that’s how I learned the story.
I remember wishing I had a Silas cam. There would have been some good footage on that thing.
Yesterday Number 4, unbeknownst to me, got a hold of my phone.
I didn’t know until I went to look at my pictures for a blog post.
I was reminded of Silas and his basketball adventure.
She took about 250 pictures.
An now I know what goes on when I’m not in the room.
I thought I’d share a couple…
An afternoon in the life of Number 4.
Or,
Number 4. A Retrospective.
and, finally,
and appropriately…..

LOVE those photos. Looks like the Photobooth collection of pictures on my Mac. We had a lab. She didn’t get away, but she was a total counter surfer. We had a catered party one time, and I warned the catered NOT to leave any food unattended – which they DID. The caterer came to me and said, “Ma’am, I’m so sorry – the dog ate 4 pieces of steak, three chicken breasts, and 3 cannoli.”

Lol. my kids have done that a time out two before…. which is how I realized they were singing on their closet door( standing on the knobs and kicking off the wall by their dresser) and how they made a slip and slide with a jumbo freaking size shampoo and body wash I had just bought.

I think it’s wonderful to see what pictures our kids take. They always have the most interesting perspectives.

I love these photos! It’s amazing how technologically advanced kids are these days, and interesting to see what she took pics of!
