It all started with this mason jar.
About 5 years ago, my grandmother moved out of her house and into a condo.
She was packing and cleaning and getting rid of some things, and she gave that jar to me.
At the time, I was also moving — into the house we live in now.
The kitchen was completely gutted. Down to the studs.
I was in the process of designing the kitchen.
I fell in love with that mason jar.
So I designed my kitchen around it.
I took the jar to the tile store with me, and I picked out something that matched.
I used that tile for my backsplash.
My husband built the entire kitchen, cabinets and everything.
I asked him to make the window sill deep enough so Gma’s mason jar would fit on it.
I got a couple more mason jars off of ebay.
My kitchen was complete.
Well, I thought it was.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know Gma died a couple days before Christmas.
My parents have been cleaning out her condo.
Yesterday my dad came up to babysit, and he brought these with him.
Gma’s mixing bowls and a couple of her old pie plates.
They are perfect.
Now my kitchen is complete.
It’s cold out today.
There’s over a foot of snow on the ground.
It’s a good day to stay inside.
A perfect day to stay inside.
A perfect day to stay inside,
and make some pies with Gma.

My Grandparents sold antiques, we live in the house they built in the 50’s, and there are a MILLION Ball Mason jars here. We went through them, I took some, my sister took some, my Dad took a ton of them. I love ball mason jars, and I love that you designed your kitchen around that jar.

I understand. I have my mother-in-laws mixing bowls and potato masher everytime I use them I feel as if I am cooking with her. Loved her dearly.
