There are plenty of advantages to having older brothers and sisters.
But there are also some disadvantages.
Mainly in the vocabulary department.
When you are 2 or 3 and you have a big brother or sister, you learn some words you wouldn’t learn until much later.
You know, when you started going to school. And riding the bus.
Everybody knows that the bus is where life’s most impressive vocabulary is acquired.
They should teach those SAT prep courses on the bus.
Because when your kids learn a word there, they never forget what it means.
Number 6 is three.
He has learned the word stupid from his big brothers and sisters.
We have told the kids that this word is not okay.
But at a certain level of anger or frustration, it often makes an appearance.
Number 6 has also already learned about empty threats.
Along with stupid, “You are not my best friend” is one of his go-to throwdowns.
But he can’t say his “r’s” yet.
So if you piss him off, he will hit you with the
“YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!”
He’s got a pretty short fuse; it doesn’t take much to push him over the edge.
Don’t play cars with him upon demand?
YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!
Don’t fill his sippy cup immediately?
YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!
Don’t share all the Mr. Potato Head pieces?
YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!
He’s recently stepped it up a notch. I guess he needed something with a little more zing.
The other day I did not follow his specific instructions.
He stomped out of the kitchen, yelling.
MOMMY! YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!
He wasn’t done though.
Then he stomped back in.
MOMMY! I SAID YOU AW NOT MY BEST FWEND!
YOU!
AW!
MY!
STUPID!
FWEND!
Oooooh.
A combo.
Oh well.
At least we’re still fwends.

Hilarious. I’d take stupid friend. I’m usually that anyway.

Too funny. I can just see an angry little 3 year old running around the house. Hopefully he doesn’t learn any worse words just yet!

Hi Susie! I love your posts; you have such a refreshing view of the world! I was just wondering why you do not post your children’s names. I totally respect that you do not, but you make no secret of who you or your husband are, and so I am just curious. I love to hear what people name their children, and I am sure you picked beautiful names! Keep writing and I’ll keep reading because it is comforting to know I am not alone!
