I want to share something with you that changed my life.
It changed my life in a couple of ways.
First it helped me start caring about myself again.
And secondly, it saved me a bunch of money and a whole bunch of time.
I love it so much that I became an affiliate so that I could share it with every woman I know. I love it that much.
But first let me rewind a little bit.
Here is the really abridged version of the story:
I used to be thin and have a kick ass wardrobe.
I spent insane amounts of money on clothes and when I was a teacher, I never repeated an outfit during the school year.
NEVER.
Then I got married.
I got pregnant a bunch of times and gained a ton of weight.
I stopped caring about myself and let my self go in all areas. Including the wardrobe area.
I became the stereotypical mom in sweats or pajamas 24/7.
Then I finally started caring again, lost a bunch of weight, but had no money and no clothes that fit me.
And that’s about the same time I discovered the thing that changed my life…
The Get Your Pretty On Style Challenge Capsule Wardrobe.
It isn’t really a “challenge.” The challenge is simply to start caring about yourself again, and to get dressed in clothing that isn’t predominantly elasticized or meant for wearing while you are sleeping.
I started participating in these challenges a couple years ago.
And then I gained a whole bunch of weight back. AGAIN!!! UGH!!!
So none of my clothes fit me again, and I stopped participating in the challenges because I didn’t want to get new clothes. Not at the size I was. Plus I didn’t have much money.
Now I’ve reclaimed control of my life — AGAIN — and as luck would have it, a new capsule wardrobe challenge — the 2018 Fall Capsule Wardrobe — opened yesterday.
I got it as soon as I woke up yesterday morning at 5 a.m.
This is about my sixth challenge. And I hadn’t done one in a while because I had fallen into that not caring pattern again.
If you have participated in any of these challenges in the past but haven’t done one recently, let me tell you that they are so much more helpful now than they were a couple years ago. There is SO MUCH more to them than there was two years ago.
If you’ve never done one you are probably wondering how they work.
It’s simple.
You invest $39.99 in the challenge. This challenge will give you a serious return on your investment. You will save much more than the amount you invest.
For that minimal and super reasonable investment, you receive:
- a 21 page style guide complete with lists, explanations, modifications, and photos of all the pieces you need for an entire fall capsule wardrobe AND SO MUCH MORE.
- 21 different outfit combinations (printable so you can hang it right in your closet to make getting dressed ridiculously easy)
- online links to every single item in the capsule at Amazon, Nordstrom, Target, Old Navy, Loft, and H&M so you can very easily do some, most, or all of your shopping online
- membership in a closed (and super supportive) Facebook group
So no, you are not receiving any clothing for this investment.
But you are saving hundreds or thousands of dollars in time.
You are saving your brain from having to make any decisions about what to wear.
Moms make enough decisions every day. Decision fatigue is a thing!!! This eliminates any decision making fatigue with respect to your clothing so your brain can deal with more important decisions.
Then you are saving money by not buying a whole bunch of clothes and having a full closet, but still having “nothing to wear.”
You have items you can easily mix and match, you have an organized and decluttered closet, and you have three weeks of outfits that are already thought out for you.
When you purchase the challenge, you receive immediate access to everything you need to create your capsule wardrobe.
You have a guide to cleaning out your closet so that you don’t have to spend much brain power on that.
You get a checklist of what you will need. So you start with items you might presently have in your closet. (There is a very good chance you have many of them right now). You check off what you have already.
Then you decide where you want to go to fill in the blanks in your capsule wardrobe.
If you like to shop online, you are seriously in luck. ALL the work has been done for you. You simply have to click on the links provided and get what you need.
If you like to shop in retail stores, you can bring your list along with you and shop with a plan and know just what you are looking for.
Here is another thing you get (something that wasn’t a part of the challenges a couple years ago)… If you don’t love the color palette in the capsule wardrobe (because not all colors work the same for everyone), you also get three variations.
Here is (a part of) the Summer 2018 capsule wardrobe presented in the Summer 2018 challenge:
And here are three variations of it to appeal to different people’s tastes:
There are so many resources in this challenge, it Allison makes it so easy for you to create a capsule wardrobe that uses a few current trends to create a wardrobe that works for you.
I don’t buy every singe item in the list. I buy what I like. And after doing several challenges, there are many pieces I already have. Half of the pieces in this capsule will be used in the winter capsule wardrobe. They will also be in the Spring capsule, and many of them will be in next fall’s capsule also.
So you are not creating and entirely new capsule wardrobe from scratch every season or every year.
The more challenges you do, the better you become at figuring out what styles you really like and what works best for you. I have gotten so good at it that I was able to go to TJ Maxx yesterday and find just about everything I needed to complete this capsule (when I combined what I needed to get with what I already had) in an hour.
An hour!
I spent $200 and created an entire capsule wardrobe in an hour.
Here is what I got yesterday:
Did that $39.99 pay for itself?
ABSOLUTELY.
I got:
- 3 solid tops
- a denim shirt
- two neutral sweaters — one long and one shorter
- 1 pair of pants
- denim jacket
- quilted vest
- 1 jumpsuit (I substituted that for a dress)
- 1 pair of ankle boots
Wanna see some of the looks from the challenge I made with the stuff I got yesterday in combination with what I already had in my closet?
Here’s one:
That’s a shirt I already had, black skinny jeans I already had (couldn’t fit into them until a couple weeks ago), the new denim jacket, and the new boots.
Here’s another combo:
One of the new solid tops, the new shorter sweater, and jeans and sneakers I already had.
I wore this outfit to a swim team picnic today and Number 4 — who is in 7th grade and VERY fashion conscious these days — said to me, “Mom, you look really good today. LIKE REALLY GOOD. That’s the kind of outfit I want to wear when I get older.”
I’d call that a big old thumbs up.
Plus this outfit is just as comfortable as yoga pants and a hoodie.
But I feel way better in it.
Here’s a third outfit:
The shirt, pants, and sweater were all purchased yesterday at TJ Maxx. I had the scarf and shoes already. I had a long sweater just like this one about 15 years ago when I was teaching. I loved that thing. I’m so glad they are back in style, because nothing is more comfy than a nice long sweater. Plus it’s so versatile.
And I LOVE it in the next outfit:
That’s the same black skinny jeans and ankle boots as in the first picture, and the same top from the second picture.
I LOVE THIS OUTFIT.
I love them all, but I like this one a lot.
And there are 17 more in the challenge!!!
I cannot recommend the Fall 2018 Capsule Wardrobe Challenge enough.
Getting dressed is easy (and fun!!!) again.
I don’t have to spend any time thinking about what I’m going to wear — all the work has been done for me.
I have outfits for Open Houses and conferences and volunteering at school all at my fingertips, my closet is neat and simplified and organized, and most importantly,
I FEEL AWESOME.
If you want to start a capsule wardrobe for yourself but don’t know where to start or just the thought of it overwhelms you, this is the solution for you.
Let’s look cute without spending lots of time thinking about clothing together!
