Yesterday it was beautiful outside. I was about to go for a nice bike ride by myself while my dad watched the kids. And then my friends were coming over with their kids to hang out by the pool in the afternoon.
I was looking forward to the day and feeling really bummed that it was the last Friday of the summer.
I was just about to walk out the door, and I heard a bunch of commotion coming from Number 3 and 4’s room. And then they came down the stairs. Number 4 came first. Number 3 was behind her. Number 3 was hysterical, screaming like a lunatic, tears streaming down his face.
He had had his hand on Number 4’s head. I thought he had hurt her and was trying to cover something up.
But upon closer inspection, I realized his hand was stuck.
“Mom, pleeeease don’t put this in your blog!” begged Number 4.
Ooooooohhhhhh no.
This shit is going in the blog.
How the hell did this happen? What the fuck were they doing up there?
You see that indentation on Number 3’s thumb? Yeah, that’s from Number 4’s hair. I can’t tell you how tightly it was wrapped around his finger. The predicament they had gotten themselves into was rather impressive.
I wanted to take a picture first. But Number 3’s thumb was already a shade of purple that I had never seen on any part of a human being’s body before.
So his safety and well-being came before the blog. But that could change at any minute…
Anyway, I tried unwinding the hair and sliding it off his thumb, but it was impossible. And Number 3 was seriously in pain. So I finally got the scissors.
I had to cut the other finger out too, but not before I took a picture.
When I told Number 4 I wanted to trim her hair before school started, this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
Huh. All of a sudden I’m not so bummed that summer is over.
