Since I’ve lost all this weight,
I haven’t gone shopping for new clothes.
First of all, I can’t afford it.
And secondly, I still have about 10 pounds to go, so I’m trying to hold out.
But we got invited to a party last night.
A grown up party.
And I didn’t want to wear the same running shorts and free triathlon shirt that I wear every day to the party.
Plus, yesterday we had a tag sale.
So I took a little bit of the money we made, and I went to Target.
I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone into a dressing room in the past 8 years.
Literally.
It’s just been too depressing.
But yesterday,
I went in.
And it didn’t suck.
In fact,
from most angles,
I liked how I looked.
Not,
I didn’t hate how I looked, but I actually liked how I looked.
Uh huh.
I had a fucking pleasurable experience in a dressing room.
Which is semi-miraculous.
Excited, I rushed home to change.
I put on my new outfit.
I straightened my hair and put on mascara,
and perfume
and…
lip gloss.
I haven’t done all those things in combination in many months.
As I was standing in the kitchen, waiting for my husband to get ready,
Number 3 walked by.
And he stopped.
He did a double-take.
And then he said,
“Mom?”
His voice got really quiet.
He stared right at me, and he said,
“You look really pretty.”
He has never said that to me.
In eight years.
And you know what?
It was totally
worth
the
wait.

Speaking of Target, did you know you could have saved an additional 20% off your purchase?
Just search Google for:
Target promo code
You’ll see a few sites that give a instant discount codes (most of the time they’re for up to 20% off anything in the entire store).
The problem is some sites put up bogus promo codes and trick us into buying more expensive stuff…
… I have a webpage that lists the best promo codes for 26 big-name merchants… and each code is verified to work by hundreds… sometimes thousands of users. I update my list several times a day…
… Here’s where to get my list of promo codes:

Dressing room mirrors are unflattering no matter how skinny you are. That’s why it’s important to go in with a positive body image beforehand, and it’s always helpful to have people like your family in your life to reinforce that.
