A couple weeks ago I took the kids to Paugussett State Forest.
The kids had fun on the rope swings and jumping off the rocks.
I didn’t bring my suit, so I just watched.
But I vowed to wear my suit and join the kids on the rope swings and in the water the next time.
Today was the next time.
Jumping off the rocks was no big deal.
But the rope swing is a different story.
My upper body strength has always been pretty lame.
Even when I weighed 125 pounds and was in high school it was bad.
So I didn’t know if I’d even be able to hold myself up for more than a second.
But dammit I was not coming home without going on that rope swing.
The kids make it look so easy.
(if the videos don’t load try using a different browser)
It’s effortless for Number 5.
Number 7 can do like 10 pull-ups (no exaggeration) so she’s like Tarzan.
Number 3 — of course — got fancy.
And then, it was my turn.
I’m not gonna lie.
I was scared.
Because if you don’t swing out far enough, you can fall in the water where it’s shallow and slam into a bunch of rocks.
Knowing I was kind of terrified, Number 5 yelled, “FEED FEAR A SUCK IT SANDWICH!!!”
I fed fear a suck it sandwich.
Sort of.
Prepare yourself for two seconds of finesse.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA.
Well it wasn’t pretty, BUT I DID IT.
And maybe I almost killed myself but you know how many other 50-year-old moms were out there doing that today when I was there?
NONE.
And now I have a new goal.
I won’t be doing any back flips, but the next time I’m on that damn rope I’m gonna make it look easy, too.
I better go.
I have some push-ups to do.

You are amazing! It’s not about doing things perfectly, it’s just about doing them. You showed yourself and others a good example of loving yourself and having fun!! “Feed fear a suck it sandwich” should be new slogan! That was awesome! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
