Back in my teaching days, one of my teammates had a secret gift giver.
Not at Christmastime or anything.
It happened all year long.
Every so often, she would come in to school in the morning, and there would be an apple on her desk.
Sometimes it was a real apple, and other times it was a little chotchkie-type apple.
Every time she got one, my teacher friend would come running into my classroom to show me the newest addition to her collection.
We had no idea who was giving her these apples.
But we had fun trying to figure out who it was.
I thought it was one of the custodians; she thought it was another teacher.
On the last day of school, her secret, year-round Santa made herself known.
It turned out that her apple deliverer was a parent who just really appreciated her.
I have my own secret supporter.
But she doesn’t deliver apples. So far she’s shown up twice.
And both times she’s delivered something different.
She calls herself my Earth angel.
I’m assuming it’s a woman. It could be a dude.
But after what was secretly delivered this last time, I believe my angel is female. So I’m just gonna say it’s a she.
A couple weeks ago, I wrote about how I just cannot manage to return library books on time, how at least one always goes missing, and how we now have over $55 in fines because we have three misplaced books.
And then this happened.
Since her first appearance, I have been struggling with some things over which I have no control.
I have been upset and angry and wasting valuable energy that I don’t have to waste, and I’ve been having a really hard time just accepting things and not letting them affect me.
This past week she showed up again.
Not only does my Earth angel show up at the right times, but she knows just the right thing to deliver:
It is what it is.
And now, I think I will let go, accept, and move forward.
Earth Angel, I know you are not doing these things because you expect me to publicly acknowledge you, but, well, I feel kind of like my teacher friend who excitedly wanted to share every time she received one of those apples.
I don’t know how you know just what to do at just the right time, but all I can say is you are really helping to keep me afloat.
And thank you.

How amazing! It’s so great to see that there are just really great people out there still who do things just to do them, without expecting anything in return.
