I found this chair on the side of the road. It was originally brown (I forgot to take a picture before I primed it).
I took the seat cushion off (just flip the chair over and there are usually 4 screws on each corner to unscrew).
I used the free paint from the paint store (click here to see how I got that) to paint the chair.
I also painted a desk that I found for free on the side of the road (I forgot to take a picture of that before I painted it).
After painting the chair and the desk, I got to work on the seat cushion.
I removed all the layers of fabric until I got to the bottom layer.
Here’s what was underneath:
I didn’t have money to spend on fabric, so I raided my closets. I wanted something with a pattern, but couldn’t find a piece big enough.
So, I improvised.
I found this tablecloth and table runner. They were gifts.
I’ve had them for years, and I’ve never used either of them, so I didn’t feel bad cutting them up.
Maybe you don’t have a tablecloth…You could use an old sheet, a shirt, a blanket, anything really…
All you need is a heavy duty stapler to attach the new fabric.
I first covered the seat with the tablecloth, and then used the table runner on top of that.
Sorry for the blurry and crappy picture…My 3-year-old took it…I was screwing back on the blocks that attached the cushion to the chair.
Then, all that was left to do was reattach the cushion to the chair.
So,
A chair from the side of the road in one town and a roadside desk from another.
A little creativity and recycling from your closet,
some elbow grease,
and….
Voila!
All for free!
How cute is that?

Nice! The people around there sure do get rid of nice stuff! They must not see the potential like you do…They sure turned out great. My Mom is always going to yard sales, finding a great bargain and then making it into something else with a lot of elbow grease.

yeah…I have NEVER seen anything worthwhile on the side of the road….ever.
(and yes…all of your re-dos have been outstandingly cute)

That’s splendid! I coated the top of my desk with drawItpaint whiteboard paint so that my kids could doodle on it and I can jot down notes when I’m on the phone. it’s actually quite handy.
