Dear Renée,
I saw your picture.
The one that everyone is talking about.
The one where they say you look unrecognizable.
Not that it really matters, but here’s what I think.
Either way, you’re kind of screwed.
When people see pictures of actresses and models who are showing the signs of aging, they are quick to point them out.
Whoa. What the fuck happened to her?
But should you choose to try to disguise those signs of aging, well, then you’re bound to hear,
Whoa. What the fuck happened to her?
It’s a lose-lose for you.
And you don’t owe anybody an explanation.
Personally, I think you had your eyelids done.
I can totally understand why.
I have the same issue.
Every single day I look at my eyelids.
Every. Single. Day.
I pull them up. I cover them with my fingers.
I imagine what I’d look like if I had them done.
I’ve looked into it.
I’d need about $3500.
I’ve said that as soon as soon as I hit it big, I’m taking $3500 straight to the plastic surgeon, and I am having my fucking eyelids taken care of.
And then I saw your picture.
You do look different.
I’m not saying better or worse.
Just different.
And people have a hard time with change.
And I think we all related to you as Bridget Jones.
At least I did.
And we loved you because of all your imperfections.
At least I did.
They made you beautiful.
The eyelids that you hated, well, I loved you for them.
And I guess I’m just hoping for one person in the public eye to hold strong.
To embrace the imperfections. The ones that are already there, and the ones that have not yet arrived.
I don’t judge you. I really don’t.
Whatever makes you happy.
Like I said, people need time to adjust to change.
I’ll adjust.
But the next time I have those thoughts about taking the knife to my face, I will think of you.
Because while I am having a hard time adjusting to the older-looking me,
I think I might have an even more difficult time adjusting to a completely different looking me.
So for now, this face isn’t going anywhere.
Except maybe a couple millimeters closer to the ground.

Beautiful post! You’ve got a gentle-realism style which I try to achieve but mot of the time I sound too harsh. On a side note- I have mixed feelings about my eyelids aswel!!
