How about a quick, happy story?
We could all use one of those.
My friend’s son had a birthday a couple days ago.
He turned five years old.
Celebrating birthdays right now takes some creativity.
My friend made a poster and put it outside of her house for her guy’s special day.
A local tow truck company led a parade for him.
He was super happy.
But then something even better happened.
While it was a nice surprise for my friend’s son, it was probably a much bigger deal for my friend.
I have been in this situation.
I have been in a place where life was presenting challenges and I felt down on my luck and like I was never going to catch a break.
And then a miracle would happen.
It happened a few times in 2013.
It’s happened many other times.
And it happened to my friend the other day.
She found this left at her house by a complete stranger after seeing Oliver’s birthday sign:
The note read:
My daughter’s 4th b-day was in March (22nd) and she didn’t get to have the birthday party she was planning. 🙁
So since your birthday is today, similar to what my baby’s was, we wanted to give you a little something and make your day. 🙂
Enjoy your gift 🙂
Happy Birthday Oliver
Yeah, this was a pretty cool and unexpected thing for Oliver.
But for us, for the adults, these moments are so much more than a gift for our kids.
They are a reminder that the worst of times can bring out the best in people.
That there are many good human beings out there.
That people want to help.
That the Universe or God or whatever you call it/him/her has your back.
That unexpected miracles of all sizes happen all the time.
And if you are having a rough day today, I just wanted to redirect your brain for a minute or two.
Cause there’s some good shit happening out there right now.
And when you keep showing up, some if it will eventually come your way.
