Today was the kind of day I envisioned when I first became a parent.
It is the first day I’ve had like this in a very long time.
Like maybe ever, actually.
We had no meltdowns.
ZERO.
ZERO!!!
We had a couple disagreements, but other than that, the kids were awesome.
I was able to get a six mile run in.
I had dinner on the table before 6 pm, and Number 7 said,
MOM, THIS IS THE BEST DINNER EVER.
I have been fucking Martha Stewart in the kitchen this last week.
My kitchen was even all cleaned up BEFORE we sat down to eat.
BEFORE.
I EVEN MADE A CAKE.
A CAKE!!!!
On a Wednesday night.
I told you I was Martha fucking Stewart.
I’ll tell you one of the reasons things have been going really smoothly in the food department.
I made a plan for the week.
And I have totally stuck to it.
Not having to devote one single second of brain power to what is being made for breakfast, lunch or dinner has been a lifesaver.
The past thirteen days have been very challenging in some ways, but very eye-opening in other ways.
Having daily family meals has made a HUGE difference in how my kids are interacting.
I’m looking forward to life getting back to normal.
But I’m also rethinking what normal is going to look like when that day comes.
Until then, I am truly grateful for this time at home with my family.
Because today was a really, really, really, really, REALLY awesome day.
