When I moved into my house it was kind of like speed moving, and we just kind of threw stuff in my room without thinking about anything and it’s been right where we put it ever since.
I didn’t have much bedroom furniture – I had a small table, blanket chest, and chest of drawers all handmade by my dad and a small chest of drawers that used to belong to my parents.
I had no bed and no lighting and I had a big empty bedroom.
I ended up collecting a ton of free furniture from family and friends, and I had more than enough to furnish my room.
My parents had a double bed they’d been wanting to get rid of for a while, so they give me that. I got a chair and small chest/cabinet from a friend, scored a free rug from a local realtor, and I got two matching lamps at an estate sale for $10.
And then we pretty much just threw it all into my room and it’s sat there for a year.
But it usually looks like this:
No matter how hard I try, the chair ends up covered in clothes.
Well after spending 5 days isolating in my room, it really really REALLY started to bother me.
The room has so much potential.
I knew I wanted to put something on the wall above my bed, but I couldn’t figure out what to center it on.
I guess when we put everything in the room we centered the bed on the room rather than on the wall.
So first I cleaned up my room.
See what I mean about everything being off center? Why it took me almost a year to realize this I have no idea.
So the next thing I did was center everything on the wall instead of on the room.
It is not easy to move a carpet and a bed by yourself, but I did it.
Next I wanted to put something above my bed.
My decorating budget is zero dollars, so I had to get creative.
Something I love to do to save money but add a little color to the walls is to use pictures from calendars.
There is some great artwork in calendars!
There’s a Christmas Tree Shop on the way to drive my son to swim practice, and back before he got his license sometimes I’d walk around and check things out after I dropped him off.
A few months ago I bought a couple 3-packs of plain, 12″x12″ white frames (affiliate link) and I bought some 2021 calendars because it was October or November and they were super cheap.
When I see calendars with artwork I love, I buy them and hold onto them.
I really liked the artwork and colors on the Enjoy the Ride calendar, so I ripped out all the pages.
I love traveling and I love traveling with the kids, so the theme was perfect.
They fit perfectly inside the square frames I got.
You don’t even have to worry about the little hole on the top. You don’t notice it.
The frames came with mats in them, but I didn’t use the mats because I didn’t want to cover up the picture.
They looked great!
I used Command strips (affiliate link) to hang them up – super easy.
I took the fake trees I use for Christmas and put them on the bedside tables. It’s winter. They are wintery. And I like the lights on them.
I’m not finished, yet, but I’m really really really really REALLY happy with how it turned out.
And the only thing I’ve spent money on is the two lamps from the estate sale, the frames, and the calendars! Less than $50.
One of the things I’ve been working on is my sleep hygiene and my nightly routine.
It’s a lot more appealing to get my butt up into my room when it looks like this.
I’m not done yet, but I’m getting there.
And I’m going to do my best to keep it looking like this because you know what?
I deserve to spend time in a room that’s beatiful and peaceful and cozy and calm.
It takes a little effort to keep it this way.
And it’s definitely worth it.

I just love it!!!
I started making my room ready for me when I get the kids in bed. I turn on the nightstand lamp, close the blinds, make it welcoming for myself! It’s been helpful for me! 💗💗💗

Absolutely my dig !!! I love you recycle , yard sales , etc . Very creative and I love the pics . It’s not what we can buy and spend all kinds of money on . What’s more important is that when we have less ??? It’s looks and feels like so much more .🙏
