I was going to write about something else today.
But I’m still sick, and I’m a little behind with my post, and then this happened,
and well,
I just had to.
My dad and I had a little mix up today.
He thought I was picking up Number 5 from preschool at 2:00, and I thought he was picking up Number 5 from preschool at 2:00.
So no one picked up Number 5 from preschool at 2:00.
Around 2:15, I realized they weren’t home yet. It was a little strange because they are usually back by then, and we only live about 2 1/2 miles from the school.
I didn’t really think much of it. I was enjoying the quiet and eating some soup while Number 6 and 7 were taking a nap.
I figured maybe they stopped to get something on the way home.
I went back to eating my soup.
At 2:22 my phone rang.
I answered it.
“Susie?”
It was Mrs. N, the director at Prince of Peace.
“Um…I have Number 5 here….”
Shit.
“Can I call you right back?” I asked her.
I called my dad. I asked him if he was, by any chance, only seconds away from Prince of Peace.
“I’m sitting right here at home,” he said. He lives about 25 minutes away.
Double shit.
I called Mrs. N back.
“We had a little mix up,” I told her. “Just give me a couple minutes. I have to get the kids up from their naps and get them into the car. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
She told me Number 5 was fine, that they were picking out a book to read, and that I didn’t need to break any land speed records to get down there.
I sat on the couch and thought. I tried to come up with a way to leave the kids in bed.
I do not mess around with nap times.
My friends had just come over to help me that morning. I didn’t want to bother them again.
My awesome neighbor was at work.
My dad was too far away.
Number 2 had basketball practice after school and wouldn’t be home until 4:00.
I’d have to wake them up.
And then my phone rang.
“Susie, we have a car seat here at school. If it’s okay with you, I will put that in my car and drive Number 5 home,” she told me. “Then you don’t have to wake the little ones up.”
There is a God.
“That would be awesome,” I told her.
And ten minutes later, Number 5 was hand delivered to my door.
I waited for her to be teary, or scared, or completely bawling, or really angry.
But all she said to me was,
“Mommy? Then next time you and Papa forget to pick me up, can Mrs. N drive me home again?”
Huh.
So much for being traumatized.
I’m hopeful there won’t be a next time.
I don’t think Prince of Peace offers personal drivers as a part of their curriculum.
But I’m so, so grateful for a place that genuinely cares not only about the children who attend that school, but the entire family connected to those kids as well.
Prince of Peace Preschool.
Yes, the experience they provide for the kids is top-notch.
But the peace of mind they provide me is so much better even than that.
Thank you Prince of Peace.
I don’t know how yet,
but someday,
I’ll return the favor.

We love Prince of Peace too! Made the switch from another school and have been so happy we have! My daughter loves the job choices (her favorite is feed the fish or water the plant) her teachers are amazing, they have a smile on their face that’s genuine every day. Mrs N and Mrs Y greet the children every day, and don’t forget Winter Fest this Saturday!

I love them so much! How awesome! I wonder if that’s the same Mrs N who helped me with my tampon in the midget toilet?
