I have been changing diapers now for nine straight years.
I bought my last box of diapers about five months ago.
And now I am nearing the end of the Pull-Up stage.
Number 6 only needs one at night, and Number 7 is in the pee-in-the-potty-but-hide-behind-the-couch-when-no-one-is-watching-and-take-a-stealth-dump-in-the-Pull-Up phase.
I have been looking forward to the end of the diaper phase.
Looking forward to it because nine years of diapers and Pull-Ups is a lot of poop and pee.
And money.
And not changing diapers multiple times a day is kind of awesome.
So is knowing that you can tell your two youngest ones to go into the bathroom before nap time to go potty, and they will actually do it.
But once that happens, you enter a whole new stage.
Like walking by the bathroom door and hearing,
“NOW DO YOU WANT TO SEE MY BUTTHOLE?”
And then you start to think…
Maybe the diaper phase wasn’t so bad after all.

Yes! My oldest is 17, and I’d just gotten him out of diapers when the now 12 year old came along. I have had at least one, and often two in diapers for all but one of the last 17 years. I shudder to think what I did to the environment before I found that cloth diapers were actually great.
My youngest is not going to be done training any time soon. But, like you, I see the light at the tunnel, and I want it. Oh, how I want it.
And if I never hear anyone talk about their penis, or say “No, you grab my penis and I’ll grab yours and then PULL!” again, I will be so very good with that, too.
I want a glass of wine now.
